I love #scifi so much. I love the absurd assumptions about realworld physics a little less, especially when there are other means toget the same result. #Astrophysics is where smartypants form an #ourobouros konga line of neverending underinformed pop knowledge.
This zine isn't a pro article but I tried to catch some on the misconceptions. Maybe there will eventually be a longer one, physics is SO COOL!

If #3IATLAS is really object created by some alien civilization, it is quite comforting to know, that their level of technology is just some kind of slow generation ship or huge automated probe, disguised as a comet, using some kind of reactive propulsion to perform trajectory correction (although the "blue" color of their exhaust or waste heat radiators, supposedly hotter than our sun, would still put their technological level above our own)

For a long time, science fiction was preparing us for aliens wielding god-like technological superpowers - from #ftl drives to #antigravity, inertia manipulation or even #stargate creation.

It is extremely unlikely, that the unusual comet is really interstellar spacecraft. But if it was, it is very old-fashioned to cautiously do Oberth maneuver, hidden from direct view from Earth behind Sun. This is something what we would probably do ourselves, if we were able to send fusion powered interstellar probe (we are not) to planetary system with planet in habitable zone (we almost found some candidate planets, but not really).

Or maybe... after all this confusion with UFOs and UAPs, aliens finally figured out the peculiar way we percieve reality and decided to stage the type of encounter which we would be able to accept as a species, without going mad :-)

Are there games you associate with a specific time of year?

For me, it's the Subset Games titles and warm summer nights. Playing #FTL with the window open, the evening glow, the soundtrack. So calm, so at home.

This year, I picked #IntotheBreach back up, and it hit that summer feeling just right.

I know they say Quantum Entanglement can't be used for FTL but fuck you (and Causality), ...the Universe could be weirder that we think....😉
