#Alstom is advancing the modernisation of Philadelphia’s 130-year-old trolley network with 130 new Citadis #streetcars for #SEPTA. Now two years into the project, design is nearing completion, with final review set for autumn 2025 before manufacturing begins in #Hornell, #NY. The modern vehicles will replace ageing 1980s stock and offer full #accessibility, low floors, space for bikes and wheelchairs, USB ports, and real-time passenger info. The project navigates heritage infrastructure, local regulations, and ‘Buy #America’ rules, with most production occurring in the US. Designed to reflect Philadelphia’s historic identity, the streetcars will serve dense communities, linking them to key institutions. The scheme supports future US light rail projects and will feature in the city's 2026 celebrations, including the 250th anniversary of #US independence and the #FIFA World Cup.
