Another Late Night: Fila Brazillia is a DJ mix album, mixed by Fila Brazillia and is the first release in the Another Late Night / Late Night Tales DJ series.[2] The album features songs that, as the band puts it, "represent some of the individuality and invention that has inspired us over the last twenty-odd years."[3] With many of the albums in the series featuring a cover performed by the artist hosting, the band chose to cover "Nature Boy" by Nat King Cole, a song they heard a great amount during childhood. AllMusic praised the album, claiming it as "both an excellent introduction to the band's idiosyncrasies and a tacit triumph of naked eclecticism in its own right." - Wikipedia

Fila Brazillia, “A Zed And Two L’s” from “Maim That Tune,” 1995
#FilaBrazillia were masters of chill, jazzy grooves just this side of the hyperkinetic electronic dance genres that...I'll say it, that plagued the #90s. Not quite #triphop, but still a relaxed presence that could soothe the soul while still letting twitch the body parts of the so-inclined.
I encountered this track in the second volume (“Phase 2”) of the Quango “A Journey Into Ambient Groove” compilation series, one of my first forays into the genre that played in my car nonstop, the perfect accompaniment to my earthbound journeys. I have yet to own a proper release by these folks; they just don't hold my attention that much - nor, to my mind, do they seek to. I prefer them peppered throughout my compilation #CDs - what we listened to before playlists - contextualized with contrasting sounds, some funkier, some more #ambient.

Record store find: still sealed, original issue. The cover is about worse for wear, but the sound is great. An absolute steal at the price I got it for.
