You ever fix something and realize just how janky everything is holding together?

We have a couple doors in our house that have always sagged and wiggled when you moved them. I finally learned how to fix this problem and did it last night. The first one someone tried to hold up with machine screws. And the second the screws were so short they did not touch the frame… they only made it into the door jam, which is a soft almost cardboard like interior.

I have a trackball where the rubber feet are partially falling of. I was thinking of removing them, cleaning the remaining glue and grime with "Goo Gone", and then re-glue the feet back. Is that a good approach? If yes, what type of glue should I use for the feet?

@kate

Unplugged it, took it back to the bathroom, plugged it in—and it happily reset? To the right time, even? (These have all been running 2-3 minutes fast, last few years. I can adjust the time, but they always drift, so why bother?)

Anyway, no clue what I did, but thank you, clock & repair gods? I was not looking forward to trying to find a replacement, since all the new ones have features I don't want, & also $$$.

Blanking on the right hashtag; hints, anyone?

@kate

No obvious damage, except for one smudge that wasn't anywhere near anything conductive that I could see. Brushed out some pretty mimimal dust. 🤷

Put it back together, figuring it'll be fixed, completely broken, or no change.

Came on okay when I plugged in, but didn't self-set. Well, I can live with a clock I have to set manually in the bathroom. >

@kate

& your post here reminded me that I needed to take a look at my bathroom clock. It's one of those "autoset" jobs, but the last few years it's had...issues with the DST time-change. This time around, pushing the button to reset the time turned the radio on!? Which then wouldn't turn off??

So I took off the case (after spending an hour & a half drilling off the head of a stripped screw—I think that's why I didn't address this last time). >

Puzzled, I try the trigger again, and watch as the lever closes in on the contact switch... and then the trigger maxes out just before the switch is depressed. Looks like a manufacturing defect in either the trigger or the lever, one of them is just a hair too thin. I pop out the trigger, run a tiny screw into the end of it, and reassemble the saw. Now I've got a working chainsaw for $36 while simultaneously saving this thing from going to a landfill.

Sustainability win! ♻️ 🌟 This week, me and my partner successfully replaced a broken laptop screen (fall damage) on a 5 year old HP probook laptop. It was a little fiddly but NOT HARD TO DO, and the replacement screen (~120€) was the only cost involved. Seriously, if you can operate a screwdriver and have some fine motor skills, you can do this.

We couldn't have done it without videos on YouTube though, so thank you to everyone who has ever uploaded a video of a repair! We have replaced this laptop's keyboard last winter, so this is the second repair. It works like a charm and hopefully will last many more years!

If you read this, share a recent repair or sustainability win of yours, I'd love to celebrate with you! 🎉

Exposed circuits, battery and fan of a HP laptop after removing the keyboard and front element.The screen has a plug in the bottom right corner and the connection is secured with a sticker. I'm holding it in my left hand here, over the opened laptop with the old screen removed. We disconnected the battery first, important!It works! The new screen is showing a windows login screen, the keyboard still needs to be put back though.

Certified Telescope Mechanics (Trust Us)

Diego and I drove into regional Victoria to fix a telescope dome because apparently that’s our life now.

We adjusted the focuser (it was vibing wrong), tried to mount a Celestron C14 on a pier (it said “no”), and realized we need an adapter the size of my ego.

It was dusty. It was weirdly emotional. One of us almost cried (me).

This is what happens when you give two guys tools, a telescope, and zero adult supervision. 🔧🔭🚙

Sunday is #3DPrintday 🎉 This morning I already got two printers working 😎 The left one prints another mini toolbox 🧰 and the right one my first iteration of an doTERRA Oil diffuser cone. The original ones are made of glass and this one broke. Instead of buying a new glass cone for about 50€ 🤯 I try to print my own in vasemode. On this model I also tried the new TinkerCad sketch tool 🙂

Where do 10mm sockets go to? They definitely don't stay in my toolbox.
It is highly inconvenient when you need a 10mm socket to fix your car but you need the car to go buy yet another new one. 🤬😡🤬

Installed a new hot water tank today. It went well. A minimum of curse words, no bloody knuckles, and all the hot water I could possibly want. All in all, a good day. #fixingthings

Right, so I'm spraying my new laser cut front panel to replace the one I made before that had a glue incident...

I decided that screwing it to the plate behind would be a better plan than gluing it anyway, because the plastic panel behind it which has all the switches mounted to it is glued together since the previous owner maybe dropped it?
