Come with us to Floriade as science communicators (part 3) 👩‍🔬💐

Floriade this year showcased the beauty of science through flowers and visual science communication 🎡🌷🔭 It even sparked conversations about science between visitors, and encouraged them to share their own scientific knowledge about flowers (whether or not they realised!) 🌻🧬

📸 Say… science!

Come with us to as science communicators (part 2) 👩‍🔬💐

Floriade this year saw a record number of visitors: 519,413 ‼️ That’s a lot of people interacting with and 🤯🤩

It’s amazing to see science be a core part of Canberra’s spring spirit and the festival honouring Australian scientists who made major contributions to their field 🧪💗 (who you can learn about on the Floriade website)

Come with us to as science communicators (part 1)👩‍🔬💐

This year’s theme was “Science and Nature” ! Each garden bed display showed a different element, from dishes 🧫 to 🧬 to the human 🧠 to light 🌈 to and mechanisms ⚙️🪐 and so much more. Not to mention all the interactive science-themed shows and activities 💜

Flowers themselves are all about and 🧪🌷

The flower beds this year have arrangements themed around different sciences. This one, obviously, represents computer science. #Canberra #Floriade

A large bed of various flowers, with a sign indicating that the arrangement was inspired by computer science: "code, circuit boards, and digital connectivity".

A second post about #Floriade #Canberra 2025

I quite like the way these photos came out - they look like paintings. To my surprise, one of them was shot on an iPhone. The rest were taken with my #fujixt5

Unfortunately due to a user error of mine, I didn't have any raw files of these shots. Although the photos don't look bad at all, I wish I can tweak them a little bit.

I think I'll take Pearl to the Floriade Dogs Day Out on Sunday. I haven't been to Floriade this year so this will be a lovely adventure for us. #canberra #floriade #roughcollies

Unexpected- I think that’s the first time I’ve seen that water feature drained empty. I wonder what happened… #floriade

Speaking of birbs at #floriade

Well that was pleasant enough. Some nice views but a lousy platform for taking photos from. #Floriade

Might wander off in a bit, look at some more pretty flowers, maybe get an icecream… #floriade

These guys are pretty good but I gotta say that “In the hall of the Mountain King” requires a bigger band. 3 just ain’t enough. #Floriade

They’re really making a solid attempt though…

It is a nice enough day at #Floriade that I’ve even taken my jumper off as I sit under an umbrella for shade and listen to a classical 3 piece - violin, keyboard and cello (I think)

The Tulip Stage at Floriade- violin front left, keyboard middle back, and cello (?, front right)

Went for a bit of a walk earlier - alas I was a day too early for #floriade (that starts tomorrow) but the weather IS nice in #Canberra today…

My attempt at #Floriade in the front #garden bed. Many #flowering #daffodils. Next winter I might put in some tulips behind them (to the left in this picture).
