Was eine gute Gesellschaft ausmacht, gehört zu den ältesten Fragen der Menschheit – und sie stellt sich heute mit neuer Dringlichkeit. In Zeiten globaler Krisen, gesellschaftlicher Spannungen und tiefgreifender Veränderungen sind neue Antworten dringend gefragt.

Zehn promovierte Wissenschaftler*innen auf Postdoc-Level aus unterschiedlichen Disziplinen und Ländern werden dieser Frage ab Oktober 2025 im Rahmen der neu gegründeten Young Academy for Cultures and Societies Research (YAC) nachgehen.

Vom 8. bis 10. Oktober 2025 trafen sich die Mitglieder der Akademie erstmals in den Räumen des @FRIAS_UFreiburg das die Koordination der Akademie übernimmt.

🌟 Nobel Laureate Anne L'Huillier is coming to FRIAS 🌟

On 13 March 2025, the 2023 Nobel Prize in Physics winner will deliver our 31st Hermann Staudinger Lecture. Anne L'Huillier is one of the leading scientists in the field of attosecond physics, an area of research that explores the ultrafast dynamics of electrons in matter.

In her lecture, she will highlight some of the key steps in the field of attosecond science, starting with the generation of high-order harmonics and continuing with the measurement of attosecond pulses. Some applications of attosecond pulses will be presented.

Ein interessanter Vortrag am Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies von Amrei Bahr mit anschließender Diskussion über die Rolle der Wissenschaft, politischen Einfluss, die Grenze zum Aktivismus und prekäre Arbeits- bzw. Forschungsbedingungen.

Ukraine oder die Eskalation des Gaza-Konflikts stehen Zeichen einer Verschärfung gesellschaftlicher Konflikte. Oft wird in diesem Zusammenhang über eine Bedrohung der Demokratie gesprochen. Von Hochschulen wird von einigen gefordert, in gesellschaftlichen Konflikten Haltung zu zeigen. Gleichzeitig geraten Forscher:innen unter Druck, die in Konflikten Position beziehen, wie die „Fördergeld-Affäre“ um die Forschungs- und Bildungsministerin Bettina-Stark Watzinger im Frühjahr 2024 gezeigt hat.
