OK, so apparently #GooglePlayBooks upload service won't play ball with all of the PDFs. Specifically, a 722 page, 527 megabyte PDF. (Bought some #ElfQuest albums off #HumbleBundle. This was just the first one.)
Hope the Google Drive PDF thing works better.
...side note, how the hell do I even appear to have used up half of my Google Drive capacity? I barely use the darn thing.
One thing that mildly bugs my #ADHDbrain:
It's easy to get #ebooks from #ProjectGutenberg and stick them in #GooglePlayBooks, all right? BUT for a lot of old PG releases (old EPUB with no images), the Google Play Books just bugged out. Wrong metadata, grayed out or wrong cover image. So reading them was a real annoyance. Can't find books within this mess. Worst part is, Google Play Books won't let you edit the details. (...so all of my PDFs have correct cover art but just the filename.)
I just downloaded a few of the PG EPUB3 books - this seems work better, as at least these show the generic covers created by PG which are better than nothing.
Also I just deleted a book that has stuck in my Google Play Books catalogue this way for, like, a decade. (Memoirs of Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds) It apparently counted as three books. It just sat there in my library. Darkening my door. Bugging me. So today I redownloaded the EPUB3 version and stuck it there and whoop! works now kthxbye
Daaaaamn, #reading #ebooks can actually be fun.
Because I tried reading some of the books with the #GooglePlayBooks app again. That reader is *buttery smooth*.
...compared to #Kindle app, which has, on all of my #Android devices I've ever had, been nothing but *mildly irritatingly sluggish*. Not sluggish enough to make you quit in frustration, but just mildly sluggish that it bugs you.

I was curious about downloading #books from a Google Play/Books account to a #Kobo reader. Knowing most companies loves their DRM, I assumed there would be some hoops to jump through. Seemingly not. Legit "export as Epub" and off to reading. Only tested on books I've gotten at no cost. Anyone know there's any restrictions here?

I never picked up on the #goodreads trend - I tend not to read a ton (until I find a series that I can sink my teeth into). I should probably also move away from using #GooglePlayBooks as my primary epub storage/reader.
Any good #FOSS alternatives? (I primarily read on a Samsung tablet/Boox e-reader).
I wrote a blog post about my experience reading on Amazon's Fire HD 8 tablet.
The Fire HD 8 is hobbled by Amazon's proprietary version of Android, which means that it's not great for general use as a tablet. However, it works well enough as an ereader now that I've found workarounds for some of the limitations of the various apps. I do regret not spending more money and getting an 8" Samsung tablet.

EDIT: via Takeout I can download a list of all book metadata either as HTML or JSON.

@18 naja, ausreichen tuht der speicher schon auch, allerdings höhre ich übers handy auch musik via #deezer und höhrbücher via #googleplaybooks da wäre mehr speicher schon nicht schlecht...
