Today when signing into my Gmail found this exciting teaser from #Google "A new look is coming soon: Google is improving its sign-in page with a modern look and feel" (screenshot attached). It always makes me happy and inspires me to see Google doing what it does best, that makes them "the hottest business, media and technology success of our time" --quote from title of book The Google Story https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/164323.The_Google_Story by David Vise #goodreads, this book helped me a lot to learn from the genius of Google. Google has an uncanny ability to innovate novel methods to make products that stand out from the crowd, even when many others were trying out (inventing) different methods to achieve the same goal. #BillGates quote explains it nicely, "Gates acknowledged that Microsoft, for example—notwithstanding discussions about Internet search—didn’t execute as well as Google did. I also got the new #GoogleKeep note taking app, and will try it out in future when need arises, but for now #GoogleDoc is what I'm using for my article 'Causal Climate Change Environment, Beyond CO2: Cow burp and MethaneSAT' , and in one click #GoogleAssistant is doing #TextToSpeech to read aloud to me my draft writing and also read out to me the online references I'm using, not to mention #GoogleAssistant is also taking written notes of my #dictation (writing down what I say). I usually do this #TextToSpeech #dictation with #Apple #Siri #Mac #iPad #iPhone but now on I will do this with #Google #Android #GoogleAssistant too, don't be jealous #Siri and #GoogleAssistant you're both the apple of my eye i.e. I like you both equally! :)

I don't think there is a direct password feature. What you do instead is to make the document visible to everybody with the link, and then *treat the link as the password*.
The links to Google Docs are already of a form that cannot be guessed. So this is equivalent to putting the document up on an easy-to-guess URL and then distribute a hard-to-guess password via some other channel.
From discussing with @imperio on a #rustdoc issue, I realize that I might be alone in copy-pasting links into #GitHub issues? You can copy a link from any web page and paste it into the GitHub editor. You get a proper #Markdown link in return!

I found this some years ago and I used it all the time now. It also works in other places such as a #googledoc. There you'll want to reset the formatting `Ctrl+\` afterwards.

Folks, I just found a treasure trove:
a list of over 1,300 #journalists that already are on #Mastodon in the form of a #googledoc
In order to give the #BorgSite its final push, journalists there need to see that there really is an audience for them here in the free #fediverse

What is the best way of putting a password on a Google Doc? I am having this issue where I can apply a password in Microsoft Office locally on my PC, but when I upload the file, the document is read only, with the password working.
If I create a Google word doc, I don't see anywhere that gives me the option of assigning a password... I did some searching and found something like

Can anyone recommend the best way of applying a password to a Google Doc?
#Idea: Open a new #GoogleDoc and write out a bunch of bullet points about a document/memo/essay you want to write then click "Extensions > Convert to Prose". This would call #ChatGPT (or whatever) and convert those bullet points into a full doc which structures the ideas, elaborates a bit, and provides a concrete starting point.
I know I always start docs with a bunch of bullet points and slowly expand on them. Having a robot start that process would help get complex ideas on paper and help with the "blank document" problem.
#ApplePages is a surprisingly good application. I hadn't touched it in years because I lived in #Quip or #GoogleDoc
I tried doing my resume in latest version of #MicrosoftWord and I wanted to throw my computer across a room after hours of frustration.
I gave up and redid the entire thing in Pages in 1/4 the time and none of the headaches.

Mastodon maybe #federated but depending on server instances settings, more security or less security, an #instance can be isolated. I follow readily but sometimes I don't think that person ever gets notified. 🙂
Part 2 of desperate for help post: Does anyone know of an app that does not lose focus when using #voiceover with a #braille display and an #iPad pro? I have tried #Microsoft word #byword, #IAWRITER and #googleDoc. All lose focus quite a lot, or the braille display will show the cursor at one point, but it is actually at a different place in the text. It is making writing very difficult for my #studies.
I have been using google docs for maaaany years and I still don't understand how those "default styles" work. I lost count of the times I had to increase then line height, add "space after paragraph" and change the awful Arial to something nicer.
No wonder if in general people don't care about the style of the documents if it's so hard to permanently set your own standard.
