I generally agree with @PKYO's assessment of the various species mentioned.

#Canada #Geese certainly announce their arrival on our lake with a lot of noise, but in the last few weeks, i.e. during the #breeding #season, they are very much warning noises at the newcomers, meaning the local pair don't want others around.

We don't feed swans, but some occupiers of the neighbouring #holiday #cottages do and the result is that, outside of the breeding season, the swans spend a lot of the time on the lawn by the gates onto their patios, 10 yards or more from the water.

Swans are certainly protective of their young. If they've raised their young on our lake they will kill any #goslings that the geese hatched three or four weeks earlier. The geese will then depart early instead of waiting till their flight feathers have regrown when they would then normally depart (in September) with their young, not to return till January.
