DAF â âDeutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaftâ hieĂ in den 1980ern eine deutsche NDW-Band. Der Name war ironisch gemeint â wie der gröĂte Hit der Band: âTanz den Mussoliniâ. Das Amerika des Ronald Reagan war damals in Deutschland nicht sehr populĂ€r. Auf der Bonner Demo gegen die NachrĂŒstung in der Beueler Rheinaue rappte Joseph Beuys leibhaftig. âWir wollen Sonne statt Reagan.â
Keine Ironie war die Deutsch-Amerikanische Freundschaft damals fĂŒr die transatlantische Gemeinschaft in CDU, FDP wie SPD. Trotz Vietnamkrieg, Iran-Contra-AffĂ€re und Grenada-Ăberfall blieben die Amerikaner ihre Freunde. Sie hĂ€tten bei Bismarck nachlesen können, dass Staaten keine Freunde haben, sondern nur Interessen. Das gemeinsame Interesse der USA und Europas die Sowjetunion einzudĂ€mmen und global MĂ€rkte offen zu halten, begrĂŒndete eine strategische Partnerschaft. Diese interessengeleitete Partnerschaft zur Freundschaft zu romantisieren, war schon damals naiv.
Jetzt hat Donald Trump diese Partnerschaft formell gekĂŒndigt. Das Scheidungsdokument ist die Nationale Sicherheitsstrategie des WeiĂen Hauses vom November 2025. Ziel der Strategie ist ökonomische und politische Dominanz ĂŒber Europa. US-Tech-Oligarchen soll unregulierter Zugang zum europĂ€ischen Markt gewĂ€hrt werden. Die US-amerikanische fossile Energiedominanz soll wieder hergestellt werden. Europa wird gedrĂ€ngt, sich Russland anzunĂ€hern, das gemeinsame Europa zurĂŒckzubauen. Die EU soll sich vom Klimaschutz und Erneuerbaren verabschieden.
1945 hatte es Roosevelt geschafft, den Faschismus in Europa zu besiegen und Deutschland zur Demokratie zu befreien. 2025 kĂŒndigt Trump an, faschistische Parteien in Europa beim Kampf gegen die demokratische Institutionen zu unterstĂŒtzen.
Die Strategie ist nicht ĂŒberraschend. Sie fasst zusammen, was seit dem Amtsantritt Trumps bekannt ist: Von JD Vance Auftritt bei der MĂŒnchener Sicherheitskonferenz ĂŒber die diversen Papiere der Heritage-Foundation bis zu unzĂ€hligen Truth-Social-BeitrĂ€gen.
Ăberraschend ist nur, mit welchem RealitĂ€tsverlust diesseits des Atlantik auf Trumps Ausrufung der Deutsch-Amerikanischen Feindschaft reagiert wird. FĂŒr die EU AuĂenbeauftragte Kaja Kallas sind die âdie USA noch immer unser gröĂter VerbĂŒndeterâ. Ăhnlich lĂ€sst sich AuĂenminister Wadephul zitieren. Nach Carl Schmitt ist die Unterscheidung zwischen Freund und Feind âder Beginn allen Politischenâ. Den Test aufs Politische haben Kallas und Wadephul nicht bestanden.
Nachdem Europa erleben musste, dass es ohne die USA nicht in der Lage ist, die Ukraine gegen Russland wirksam zu verteidigen, ist es heute Konsens, dass es in seine eigene Sicherheit investieren muss. Wenn es dann noch so weit ist, die dafĂŒr nötigen Waffen nicht in den USA einzukaufen, wĂ€re das ein Schritt hin zu mehr europĂ€ischer SouverĂ€nitĂ€t.
Trumps Sicherheitstrategie ist mitnichten eine rein militÀrische. Es geht ihm um politische und wirtschaftliche Dominanz. Deshalb reicht es nicht, zu versuchen sich militÀrisch von ihm unabhÀngig zu machen.
Europa muss sich aus der fossilen AbhĂ€ngigkeit befreien. Damit es nicht mehr 58 Prozent seiner Energie importieren muss. DafĂŒr mĂŒssen Erneuerbare ausgebaut, Batterie- und Wasserstofftechnologien vorangetrieben werden.
Europa muss sich aus seiner digitalen AbhĂ€ngigkeit befreien. Staatliche Stelle dĂŒrfen keine US-eigenen Clouds mehr nutzen, die Zeiten von Microsoft Office und Outlook mĂŒssen vorbei sein. Die EU-Regeln fĂŒr digitale Monopolisten von X bis Google mĂŒssen uneingeschrĂ€nkt durchgesetzt werden. Die Steuervermeidung von Amazon, Microsoft und Co. durch LizenzgebĂŒhren muss beendet werden.
Der romantische Atlantiker wird nun einwenden: Sind wir denn keine Wertegemeinschaft mehr? Nein, Trump teilt unsere Werte ebenso wenig, wie Putin kein lupenreiner Demokrat ist. Kann man jetzt nachlesen in der Nationalen Sicherheitsstrategie.
Es ist Zeit fĂŒr Realpolitik statt Romantik.

In one sense, the existence of "far-right influences among Project 2025 applicants" might be the most obvious thing I've ever posted on social media.
On the other hand, the details are pretty interesting. For all the managerial ineptitude of the Trump administration, the continuity between it and leaders in both the intellectual and on-the-ground brawler contingents of far-right activism in the US is striking. Some of the people mentioned here cite Carl Schmitt (albeit in the most superficial way possible), use jargon like "Heritage Americans," and talk about a left-wing "all out war" on the right, thereby justifying all-out reciprocity.
Others point to the influence Jared Taylor has had on their thinking. Taylor (I like to call him "Nazi Thurston Howell," but that's just me) is best known as the leading figure behind the American Renaissance website and the annual white nationalist conference by the same name, but he has also been a spokesman for the Council of Conservative Citizens, in which capacity he helped inspire the 2015 white supremacist mass shooting in a Black church in Charleston, South Carolina, which left nine people dead. Taylor has also more recently been openly cavorting with members of Patriot Front as well as "active club" founder Rob Rundo.
This article doesn't delve too deeply into it, but it also hints at reaffirming antisemitism as a (maybe "the") major fault line within the US far right today. Several of the people mentioned here are at least very comfortable with some pretty deeply antisemitic ideas. However Taylor, for instance, says he opposes antisemitism and has been very open to the ideas and participation of far-right Jews in white nationalist spaces, and members of the Heritage Foundation have clearly taken a "philo-semitic" position in a variety of areas.
Anyways, like I said, nothing earth-shattering or all that surprising here, but I do think it's important to keep tabs on the details of just what kind of "leadership" we're all being subjected to. Worth reading.
