A wide field picture taken from my backyard in February: M81 (Bodes’s galaxy), M82 (cigar galaxy) along with many small galaxies in the Ursa Major constellation. On the foreground, clouds of gas and dust (integrated flux nebulae, IFN) are faintly illuminated by the light of our home galaxy, the Milky Way.

A bright spiral galaxy (M81, Bode’s galaxy) is visible in the center of the frame. The second largest galaxy in the picture, M82 or the Cigar galaxy, display an elongated shape with peculiar small red filaments on the front. Surrounding it, smaller galaxies can be seen. On the foreground of the picture, stars from the Milky Way are visible, along with faint clouds of gas and dust illuminated by the light of our home galaxy.
