We also had some #tsukemono that #Yoshiko made. Slightly sweet daikon pickles and more traditional cucumber, cabbage, and carrot pickles.

#JapaneseCooking tsukemono are very different from USA style pickles.

Tonight, with the curry, the pickles were an excellent counterbalance to the spicy of the #curry.

In the supermarket pickle section today, my wife picked an orange colored pickle instead of the yellow takuan she usually gets.

We ate it with dinner.

It’s called “Tsubozuke,” and was fantastic. Made from dried radish, soy sauce, sugar, and vinegar.

I need to learn more about Japanese pickles.

Some day I want to make taiyaki at home, but you need some form of fish shaped waffle iron for that. That isn't going to fit in the kitchen, but as someone living in a dutch household we need a panini press/tosti ijzer anyways, so I am looking for a combo of those two. Surely that has to exist right?

I found this donut taiyaki combo which is close (see picture), but that isn't quite it. So I thought maybe someone on fedi knows where to shop, or a good search term.

Using my favorite and most basic recipe: chicken, shiitake, napa, and negi. Dressed with ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, and sake.

Gonna let that marry a bit (and rest my back) then pack into wrappers!

I prefer the pleats facing the center, but I know there are lots of different ways to fold them. Anyone else have a preference?

Spring break is almost over. Looking forward to seeing students and coworkers again. Not looking forward to state testing, though.

Pic is a new dish that Yoshiko made. As I understand it, it was partly inspired by both #JapaneseCooking and #FrenchCooking. Doesn't have a name yet. Almost vegan, but not quite. Delicious.
