I want to watch some #PeerTube videos, so I thought I'd join up. But the #joinpeertube website is unhelpful, explaining what it is (I already know!) what the fediverse is (holy shit I already know!) and then asking for donations.

Is there a list of instances somewhere? How do I sign up? If I'm not uploading videos, then should I give up and look for videos on Mastodon instead?

This is the kind of brick wall people run into that keeps them from even trying the fediverse.

Any advice?

@tio @peertube @sober_pirate I agree, we need much more promotion so it can take traction, that seems to be the biggest hurdle at the moment.

In it's current state #peertube and it's connection to the #fediverse via #activitypub is already far superior to #youtube ! In addition to so many other features:)

One thing I think that is really needed is perhaps a way to "boost" content that could point to a central database on #joinpeertube so we would have a way of discovering popular videos.

So I tried out #Peertube, and so far, it looks promising. Hopefully it manages to pull, not all, but a good chunk of everyone away from #YouTube and their stupid system in the near future. I'm probably still gonna use YouTube for now, just because there isn't that much good content on Peertube yet, but I do hope that people finally start to #BoycottYouTube and #JoinPeertube or any of the other alternatives.
