Last month of the year, yay!

I fell back on a comfort topic with this one, cause I'm feeling the SAD and some light burn-out. So, Kyu to the rescue :D

Personally, I love how the sad-wet-cat sticker version turned out haha

I might turn this into a bit more of a series and continue with the other major characters of Kyu's story for the next couple of months, or when I have few ideas :)

The Oncoming Storm

I love painting Kyu and the ocean. They are very closely linked in my current story WIP, so it feels natural.

Kyu is an amnesiac, who washed ashore close to a port city. In order to find her place in the world and her roots, she travels a lot. But there is always a part of her that is especially drawn to the ocean, as she knows the mystery of her identity lies beyond it.

In this particular piece, there's also a storm approaching from the ocean. I wanted a bit more tension and foreboding in this painting.

For last week's stream I started a new piece in my sketchbook. Just to play around with my newly purchased set of Arrtx markers.
The colour scheme was inspired by an alternative marketing artwork for KCD2 I found in the artbook.

I pushed through with yesterday's stream and finished this piece of Kyu's first sighting of Kazim on an ethereal plane.

There were a couple of moments where I thought I might've levelled up during my break, while I was painting the boots.

My OCs Kyu and Kazim stand opposite each other on an ethereal plane. Kazim is only half-there as a spectre. The ground is water and ripples around them, above a clear night sky with the galactic band going through the image, still a hint of twilight on the horizon. For both the white streaks of hair and fur are glowing.

Deswegen auch noch einmal am Sonntag noch gespielt im 4-Personen Spiel. Sowohl Freitag als auch SOnntag gingen die Spiele an mich. Am Sonntag mit 69-67-66-62 Punkten. Das freut mich, dass es knapp ist, da man so sieht, dass es ziemlich ausgeglichen ist.
Dann spielten wir #kyu - ein Spiel der 10 Traders (ein Zusammenschluss von Spielelädenbesitzern aus Deutschland). Das Spiel hatte ich in Essen besorgt (wie auch milkuro). Es war eine 4er-Partie, das nicht so gut war wie in Essen. 7/9

Hurrah,

the term citrus grades for the 5th, 4th and 3rd #Kyu with the belt colours lemon yellow, orange orange and lime green has made it into the official course report on Facebook.
Well, it says citrus corner for the side of the mat where the kyu kneel down, but still.

I think citrus grade is more likeable and sounds fresher than simply ‘beginner’

der Begriff Zitrusgrade für den 5. 4. und 3. #Kyu mit den Gürtelfarben Zitronengelb, Apfelsinenorange und Limtettengrün hat es in offiziellen Lehrgangsbericht auf Facebook geschafft.
Gut, da steht Zitrusecke für die Seite der Matte wo die Kyu abknieen aber immerhin.

Ich finde Zitrusgrade ist doch sympathischer und klingt frischer als einfach "Anfänger"

While I'm stumbling along writing the beginning of her story, I indulge in drawing later parts of it.

Including Kyu fighting a zombie dragon.

The premise of the story is, that creatures from another dimension entered "ours" and they tend to possess corpses and in rare cases the living. Kyu is one of the few who know how to drive these extra-dimensional beings out again.

And boy I don't want to fail delivering on that premise!

For the longest time, I couldn't quite fathom how to draw chibis. Whenever I did, they looked *really* odd.

But then I found the holy grail of chibi drawing: BEANS. BEANS ARE HERE TO DELIVER US!

So, the torsos are beans. That left some stylistics choices to make regarding limbs - thin or thicc, short or long - and the heads/faces. For the eyes I dug deep in my treasure chest of art styles and pulled out some Arina Tanemura, gosh, I love how she draws eyes!

I'll need to draw a couple dozen more chibis to really solidify my process, but the Recentia cast were willing guinea pigs for the first round! (They'll inevitably end up in the coming rounds, too... so yeah).

While I was on vacation, I ordered a new sketchbook. It is a pretty sketchbook. And it arrived just a couple of days after I returned, so the timing I went for worked out nicely!
And then I felt intimidated by the sketchbook.
Well, I finally tackled it. If that first page is out of the way, it can only get better. Right?
Now the bar for this sketchbook is set high.... this is going to be a lot of fun, lol!
I decided on a stained glass aesthetic for the first page, featuring Kyu and Ayira in their respective windows. Both searching for their place in the world, as neither got what they expected.

Kyu's memory was wiped clean and it's looking less likely by the day that she'll ever recover the person she once was, so she has to find out who she is now and how that reflects on what she is or isn't doing.

Meanwhile, Ayira grew up in the shadow of expectations she can't meet anymore, since the powers she was supposed to inherit went to Kyu. Who is she outside the responsibilities she thought she'd have?

And frankly, I find myself in a similar situation. Less fate-of-the-world-on-my-shoulders, but similar in that I'm not quite sure where I'm going anymore.

I've been lacking a long-term goal for myself and my art ever since I finished Soul's Journey. And I think that shows in what I've been doing since. I've meandered a lot. I grew as an artist, which is good. I can now more comfortably solve artistic problems. But where I am going with everything, I'm not sure.
For now, I'm glad I found the cause of my discontent, it gives me something to work with. The solution won't come over night, that I know, but I can feel my way there :)
