It's beginning to look like #Plato was more prescient about governments than Karl Marx ever was. After all, Plato claimed that democracy eventually degenerates into oligarchy before finally reaching a tyrannical state. OTOH, #Marx argued that capitalism emerged from feudalism only to suffer crises until it finally reaches an utopian ideal in communism. Given the recent events in USA & the rise of oligarchs, #latestage #capitalism has become #neofeudalism, Plato wins this round.

One of the best quotes that I have heard on 'unchecked and unbridled capitalism' comes from Rob Rosenthal, host of the SoundSchool podcast from @prx, and a podcaster I greatly respect and consider as a mentor.

In a recent episode where Rob spoke from the heart about #Spotify ruthlessly culling good shows and good people from its roster, he said:

I've heard, on occasion an argument that can be paraphrased somewhat along the lines: "Regulations are a sneaky way of bringing socialism to a capitalistic economy."

Yeah, you're right.

But do you realise what that also means?

It means socialism is the only thing that can keep unbridled capitalism in check.

I can see that we are nearing #latestage #capitalism, I can’t yet tell if we are knee deep or neck deep, but I feel the wet water.

To add and compound this, I’d like to posit we are also in late stage #individualism. We have essentially established a norm where we are no longer willing to be #governed.
