#LedClock

I had some free time this sunday to solder the last two board I had, but not enough to test them.
So I did it this evening.
1 led in the wrong direction (on 1296 hand placed leds), and 2 with bad connections. All fix, and the board are running fine now \o/

I have no idea of what I'm gonna do with them. But I'll find out :)

One is on the foreground, occupying 2/3 of the image, we see a close up of part of a led matrix ( around 17 columns of 11 rows of leds are visible). They are mostly lit in green, except the right columns which are light blue.
Behind, we see a part of another matrix (32 columns, 5 rows are visible). They are lit with a color gradient: red on the left, to green in the middle and blue on the right. The two matrixes (60x11 leds each) sit on a black cutting mat.
They are both lit with a color gradient from red to yellow, green, cyan, blue, magenta and red again. The two matrixes display time (20:36:20)

Humm, I guess I found why it's not working.

Can you? :)

Close up of a green pcb. About 20 leds are visible, they are align in a grid with a label above each one.
On each led, there is a green dot on its right.
Except one where the dot is on the left. Also, that led has burn mark :(

Hey Fedifriends ! What's the minimal css framework cool kids are using nowadays ?
I finally decided to write a UI for the configuration of my clocks :)

edit 2: maybe 'framework' is the wrong term. I'm looking for a css thing to make my page 'pretty' and consistent.
I can do (mostly) css, but I'm bad at pretty :)

edit: even if you don't consider yourself a "cool kid", you are to me and I'd like to hear the small css framework you use :)

I cut another grid on a better plywood and no more visible leaks \o/
There is still one, but in a place I'm not really using, so that's ok (for now).

I'll have to find a better way to make those kind of grid. Maybe 3d printing?

I did not realize when I posted that the video was that bad (it was late).
So, I made a (I think) better one.

I think I'm done with this prototype, I'll start working one the bigger version, maybe 11x50.

And we have clock ! \o/

This means I will most likely design the definitive pcb during the week end :)

Took some time this morning to sand the faces a little bit more, also I took better(?) pictures :)

Fully assembled, and running. I like it, it so much cleaner that the previous version.

I have some adjustment for the design to make it easier to build, but otherwise, I think this one is done !

All layers (except front and back) are glued and clamped.
I'll let them cure for the night.
Tomorrow, sanding and final assembly before adding the electronic

Two years ago I started a clock, called 'Stack'. The original thread on twitter x.com/avernois/status/15124720

I really like the way it represents times, but dislike the base (containing the pcb).
So regularly I come back to it to find a more satisfying solution.

Today, it such a day, and I think that, for once, I got something. 🧵

All code/design/pcb is merged and can be found on my gitlab with the others : gitlab.com/avernois/clocks

Maybe I'll come back later to add some animation in the display.

But for now, I'll probably start to work on the next one ;)

Same clock as previous post.
But now on a wood table in front of a white wall.

Seems to work fine ! \o/
No glitches in sight, I think I got it :)

I still have some work on the color pattern, but I'm starting to be happy with it.

A clock stand on a desk.
Behind we can see the bottom of a sceen.

The clock case is made of laser cut wood and displays time using 72 leds.
Leds are arranged in 12 groups. Each group has one in the middle and 5 around.
The 12 groups are arranged in a circle.

It currently displays 5:49:50

Here we go again !
Third iteration, hopefully the last one :)

a green pcb.
The components are on it but not yet soldered holding in place with solder paste.
Among other technical writing one can read 'ws2812b & esp V2.1.3"

I think that clock reached its final form.
And I'm quite happy with it.

I still have some work on the color patterns and internal software. I'm not completely convinced on the way to encode time.

Finally took some time to work on the color pattern. After few hours trying to be original I ended up reusing the pattern (and code) from 'linear' with a twist.
Internally, there are almost the same clock :)

edit: I uploaded the wrong video the first time. This should be better :)

Look, no more clamps \o/

The clock stands on its own with no clamps.

And now it stands on its own with enough room for the electronic.
It still needs clamps as I have not glued the new pieces yet.

#LedClock #ws2812b

The clock now stands on its own (before some clamps where used to keep it stable).
There are still some clamps to hold pieces together.

The clock displays 6:18:55
