There were two wombats sometimes chasing each other as they would chew on blades of grass. We spent maybe 30 or 40 minutes standing there, watching them.

Two wombats can be clearly seen in the low grass. In the background are low shrubs.

Everyone seems to love the wombats from Cradle Mountain eating the grass! These were all taken on the Sigma 150-600mm Sports lens, handheld. We also spotted a number of Native Hens called Turbo Chooks with their bright red eyes.

The rear of a wombat as it makes a speedy exit from the area, The wet grass is in sharp focus, with the majority of the wombats body also in focus. It has its rear left foot raised as it runs away from my position. The foot shoes pinky coloured skin.

In the centre and in focus are three Native Hens, or Turbo Chooks. They have muted brown colour feathers, with hints of blue/green. They have bright red eyes. Behind, and next to them is a small stream flowing. Surrounding them is wet grass. The three Turbo Chooks are looking for food in the grass.

After the walk around Dove Lake, we returned to Ronny Creek where I changed over to my 600mm lens in very lite rain, hoping to see the wombats again. Expecting them to be a long way away, it was tricky to take a photo of this one, which was almost at my feet.

My first visit to Cradle Mountain in the Tasmanian wilderness was a drizzly wet day. We made our way to the Ronny creek stop, headed about 100m up the path and came across a group of wombats in the rain! The wombats were about 30m away from us, and completely unbothered by the humans.

Centre of the image is a wet wombat. The foreground has wet, yellowing grass that is dormant from the winter months. To the right, and slightly blurred is another wombat. In the background there is more yellowing grass. At the top of the image is green trees and shrubs, but also streaks of the rain that was still coming down.

Comparing the weather today to previous days which is hot and sunny, it's really unlucky that whenever I step out, I get caught in light rain. It's frustrating to see my just-washed car getting dirty again. 😶
