115th #linuxvrc meet-up!
This time, it was in Brassveil Express by Yonemaruǃ vrch.at/hbhns370
The place was a co-working VR environment, even if I think the concept of it in VRChat is a bit flawed (like, you work with a full VR headset? Not even a passthrough one? Or you have your game in the background?) It was pretty sweet! It also had some very dangerous books to prop-surf with and a bar.

A photograph taken in the video game VRChat of a large environment. In front of a counter, many characters are here talking to each other. We have a pink dragon, anthropomorphic cats in beige-white and purple-white, and humanoids with an anime appearance too, with diverse hair colors and features such as fluffy ears and tails. I've just noticed how much fur there is in my picture descriptions.A photograph taken in the video game VRChat of a large environment. On the right side of the picture are 3D drawings in blue of several Linux-based distributions. From right to left, we have:
Gentoo, Arch Linux, Linux Mint, Fedora, Ubuntu and NixOS.
Numerous characters in the background, on the left side of the image, are talking to each other and drawing. We can see a humanoid anime-style character with red hair and a blue jacket, with additional cat features, drawing a more complex, detailed NixOS logo with rainbow colors. Two smaller characters in a similar anime style, one with grey and white overalls, with red and black hair and a crescent hairpin, as well as one wearing a cute panda-style (or white and black cat, due to a potential whisker detail) hoodie, are looking at it. In the far back, a giant white cat with light-brown head highlights is looking at its paw, while an anime character with cat ears and a Linux Mint logo T-shirt with a similar appropriate green and white color scheme is hiding on top of them. We can notice a last drawing, partially cut off at the left of the photograph, of an Arch Linux logo, with writing portraying a popular meme, “I use Arch Linux, btw.”A photograph taken in the video game VRChat of a large environment. In front of a large curved window panorama of a beautiful blue sky, many characters are posing for the photo. We have a pink dragon, a large, mostly white cat with a distinctive green tree hair freshener around their neck, anthropomorphic cats in beige-white and purple-white, and humanoids with an anime appearance too, with diverse hair colors and features such as fluffy ears and tails.A photograph taken in the video game VRChat of a watermelon with a classic train conductor hat. Sparkling cartoon shines were added to the photo.

The people working on the WINE bridge (which'll get PSVR2 working via the Windows SteamVR drivers) had to come out and tell people that VR on Linux is still janky lol.

Hopefully Valve (or any of their subcontractors) sends a patch out fixing this since it'd probably make Ignition perfect (and then we can focus on, y'know, actually getting the damn games to run.)

Also also, I can promise you this as well, Linux is not the saving grace for VR like many people think it is, many things still do not work correctly in VR on Linux, and in general, if you are not willing to put up with insane amounts of issues, please just continue using Windows. There is some other issues that will affect the PSVR2, such as being unable to readjust the PSVR2 Sense controller rate (seemingly due to a Linux BT stack bug?), meaning BT adapters will actually be bogged down more on Linux, which will require using our custom experimental IR LED sync.

there is a bug in the linux kernel's bluetooth stack meaning that bluetooth adapters get hammered when PSVR2 controllers are being used so that's great. 🙃

Anyone know if it's possible to make the clocks in wlx-overlay-s use 12 hour formatting instead of 24?

Last night I fired up No Man's Sky in order to spend 30 minutes or less reworking my freighter base.

2 hours in and I'm nowhere finished, plus I was up very late.

10/10 would do it again.

The new
Linux VR Adventures Database (LVRA DB) just dropped!! 🎉

For the longest time, the goto database for Linux gaming, whenever you wanted to know if a specific game worked on your Linux machine, was ProtonDB. While ProtonDB covers many Steam games that run with Proton, ProtonDB is ultimately a Proton database and not specifically a "VR" database.

For example, on ProtonDB, VRChat works easily by simply turning on Steam Play, as Desktop mode is easy to start up. However, if you wanted
VR to work for VRChat on Linux, you would have to tweak it far more than what's covered on ProtonDB.

A database dedicated to VR on Linux is something we've been lacking for a while... until today, that is! With effort from both the VR on Linux Community
https://vronlinux.org/ and the Linux VR Adventures Community https://lvra.gitlab.io/docs/community/, they've come up with a brand new Linux VR Compatibility Database!

Feel free to leave reports for VR games that you've been playing or trying to play on Linux!

Welcome to LVRA DB (Linux VR Adventure Database)!

Here, you can find or report information about various VR games running on Linux. This website is a community-driven effort to provide an open database that helps users determine wich games are compatible with Linux and potentially discover solutions or workarounds for specific issues.

ok so i tested vrchat with envision/monado/opencomposite (FOSS linux VR stack) last night. the experience was... almost there.

  • managed to login and load into the home world perfectly fine
  • a lot of gestures/facial expressions didn't work, because the hand tracking is too accurate. that is, it accurately reflects your IRL hand position, which means the index finger is too far away to be considered a fist. also meant that the angle the menu is held at is not quite as comfortable.
  • my avatar was cross-eyed the entire time. this fixed itself upon restarting, but was funny.
  • loading into a properly crowded instance, the problem is priority. on the GPU, the compositor needs priority over the game because it needs to interpolate/reproject when the game is dropping frames, which didn't quite work. on the CPU, the audio needs priority over everything else so it doesn't die and become unbearable.
  • other than all this, it worked fine, i guess. with some tuning it might be a passable experience

Good news for fellow #LinuxVR folks, hand skeleton fixes have been merged into opencomposite that should hopefully give you a great experience in #VRChat, #Resonite, and HL:A* when running an OpenXR stack, especially standalone!

*HL:A still has a few input binding issues

I'm eagerly waiting for cooler temperatures to start playing Ragnarock again.

VR while it's 38°C outside isn't really that good. Or at least, I can't stand it.
