More #VR testing on #Fedora with #Envision and #Monado performance is pretty close to what I have with #SteamVR on Windows. Even got my full body tracking working, only small downside atm, no chaperone... a bit dangerous in my small office and its a bit more blurry.
As much as I enjoy my permanent stay on #Fedora #Linux the one sore nail is #Gnome it's my togo DE for ages and it always suited my taste, but still broken DRM leasing, Unitys UI freezes and their we hate freedom eat up how we want it attitude getting more and more worse is going on my nerves for a long time.
I gave #Cosmic be #system76 a go and wow already fairly stable despite being an alpha, also boots like instant. One WTF is their file manager like really no sorting be file type? Taskbar crashed on me a few times and SteamVR and client had trouble rendering a few menus, they would just not show up. But really once this is more mature im all up for it.
For now I still try making peace with #KDE and I still hate it so much, it's cluttered, does feel sluggish and has a super annoying bug where you have like static lines flashing on your screen, turn color accuracy to efficient, if you have the same problem, but even then it happens, but at least Unity is fine and #Monado works now.

It is with great disappointment that I report: #VR on #Linux just isn't ready yet. It would be, if #Valve would fix #SteamVR up to the same standard as the #Windows build, but in it's current state it's very restricted.
#Envision, #Monado, #OpenComposite, all these things are great, and they get you 98% of the experience. It works better than SteamVR for crying out loud.
But it's that 2% of issues that will make you go back to Windows. I hate to admit it, but it's the truth.

Alright tried once more to make monado + opencomposite work because other people "assured me it would work" and it doesn't..... followed https://lvra.gitlab.io/docs/distros/nixos/ + https://wiki.nixos.org/wiki/VR + https://monado.freedesktop.org/valve-index-setup.html#5-setting-up-opencomposite, so is there a fucking secret magic documentation that make this work or everyone lying ???

Also while we are at it my first avatar conversation for #ChilloutVR done completely on #Fedora #Linux, no Windows tools used at all. It's just a bummer that #VR while it works finally, is still pretty meh on the FPS side and #Monado is so nasty to set up, really hope #Valve moves their butts to get the last kinks out of #SteamVR .
