@quantensalat Works fine with 10W on CW (40m and up). Here on FT-8 can work stations as long as RX level is -10 or higher. Upper bands work better than lower ones. Do not use SSB here — but CW is pretty much work anyone you can hear (reasonably above the noise) with the IC-705 cranking at 13.8V & 10 Watts. Question for the hams on here since I'm finding somewhat contradictory information on the Internet: Do magnetic loop antennas work (well enough) indoors on 10m? Can't permanently install an antenna or even span one across the backyard (plus, to make things worse, transmitting from the ground floor).

I love what I'm seeing about the AlexLoop, but I like to get second opinions. Especially when it comes to radio equipment.
Operators who use magloops on a regular basis, which one would you recommend to buy?
For reference, I don't need anything that can go above 10W, and since I'm using it for portable, it can't be big, heavy, or bulky.
My Frankenloop antenna with smallest loop on 10m, it tunes down to 40m with a bigger loop and arms extended. Actually had a few contacts with S. America on 20m. #magloop
@quantensalat Super narrow - yep! Definitely need some remote tuning. I had a 12" (30cm) bamboo skewer attached to the variable capacitor knob but even just being close enough to adjust it affected the tuning. The voltage is quite high even with 10W going in so a neon - one leg soldered to the turning cap, the other floating with light up at resonance.

@quantensalat John Potune W6NBC has a series of videos on magloops. In one he makes the point that although aluminium has slightly more resistance than copper, its skin depth is greater (deeper) so the RF differences are less than you might expect. He then uses this info to built successful magloops using aluminium foill (or tape maybe) wrapped over PVC pipe, plus interesting ideas on tuning. Speaking of 80m my frame antenna (mag loop) is close to being finished now. I need to increase the capacitor’s capacity a bit to get all the way down the band but the SWR looks good and I can transmit with full 100W as well. 😎

@g7vkq Just a three-loop parallel array. G3JKF makes them carefully, with a career electronics background of decades behind him. That said, easy to make them, and they don't have to have his fanned design, a tough design for those not very good in soldering tubes (and probably offers no advantage). Below: 60-10m loop I had and a 15-10m version, without the fanning.

Very pleased to find my (GB1MUU) indoors, garage-based #magloop did marginally better in 24 hour unique WSPR spots than G3JKF's outdoor, three-loop magloop array yesterday, which is the magloop reference antenna anywhere in the world. And that was even when I hadn't become active until 10:10UT, and missed some long path!

Ham radio folks - anyone have any experience with any of the mag Loops being sold on Aliexpress? Generally about USD 100.00 plus or minus 20 bucks. Although there are a bunch of sellers, they all seem to be the same 2 or 3 loops. I am personally looking at some of the 20watt ones for portable ops with my #Lab599 #TX500. This this just for fun. I do understand the potential foibles of buying here.
If anyone has gone down this path - for good or ill, I'd love to hear from you.
