Egyptian and Mongol cavalrymen clash
This sword had quite an adventure! Made in Italy, it was acquired by the Mamluke arsenal of Alexandria not long after 1370. After the Ottomans conquered Egypt it became property of the Sultan. In the early 20th century it was acquired by a collector, possibly Bashford Dean, and ended up in the Royal Ontario Museum as object 930.26.43. https://collections.rom.on.ca/objects/261970/sword-with-arabic-inscription #sword #materialCulture #archaeology #mamluk
