Question into the #synthesizer /#musicHardware bubble:

I'm staring to look out for lil' x-mass presents and I wonder:

Are there any (as in any at all?!) books out there about "how to program the
#Arturia #MicroFreak"?

I mean. It's one of the most successful and influential synths of the last decade, still very much relevant - but I can't find any books about it.

Maybe the medium "book" is dead in relation to synths nowadays? I mean, there are still DX7 books in the wild ;)

I sure do love the #Arturia #Microfreak! Here's a playlist of my videos on it. One's an intro and overview. The other two go thru each synth engine and creates a new sound for every one of them!

After 4 days, I need to get back on the #synth horse or else this will end up on this year's pile of projects that I've abandoned before I even managed to one-eighth-ass them.

Maybe someone can tell me what kind of #MicroFreak patch I should try to make.

Or maybe there's a prompted challenge for synth patches? If now, I need one. The world needs one.

One effect that @etherdiver 's intro to FM synthesis has had on me was that it made me explore the FM engine on the #MicroFreak a bit. I've always considered that one of the weaker engines (2 operators, 1 algorithm plus rate, amount and feedback as simplified parameters), but Ether encouraged people to start with 2 operators, and the MicroFreak was sitting right there next to me, so I thought "why not?"

Always explore what you already have to the max.

I've had the Arturia MicroFreak for 6 years -- how well do I like it after more than half a decade of use?

The MicroFreak is my favorite synthesizer, maybe of all time. Find out why I love it so much in my performance review:

Dive into the biggest little synthesizer on the market: the Arturia MicroFreak. My review explains why it's my favorite synth of all time, and why you might want to get one for yourself.

If you want to get into hardware synthesizers, you could do a LOT worse than getting a little freaky -- specifically, a MicroFreak. Read my review here:

Had some time this afternoon to do a little writing, so I finally got around to writing up a review of my favorite -- you read that right, my *favorite* - #synthesizer, the #Arturia #MicroFreak.

Listen to my new song "Supreme Narcissist". I am using my beloved Roland MC707 and the Arturia Microfreak :catjam:

This is just a quick jam with the Arturia #Microfreak - I was curious if my Motu M4 would work directly with my phone - Surprisingly, it totally did! So the M4 is powered by my Pixel 8 and that little discovery pulled me right back into the MicroFreak’s weird and wonderful world. I love how you can tweak up to four parameters per sequencer step. Threw in some gritty filter movement with the cyclic envelope and played the bass live. Some Alesis Nanoverb on top.

Rant incoming whilst the world burns:

As much as I love some things about the there’s a couple big issues I have with it. One is it’s so goddamn quiet. Granted my beloved Mackie LM3204 is about 30 years old but it was recently serviced & the tech said it was great and would I sell it to him. But yeah to Microfreak is quite so I have to crank it way up. The other thing is the goddamn struggle I have w/ the stupid TRS midi. Useless as tits on a goose as an old boss used to say.

I've got #BespokeSynth rigged up to take inputs from #Orca, my #MicroFreak, and a #Midi controller -- I've got a handful of free VSTs, everything's flowing.

Nothing I've made with this configuration sounds good yet, but it all *feels* right. I've got the vibe down, now I just need to figure out my sound.

Since I started playing with music-y stuff last year there's been a synth sound in my head I've been trying to make and all the VSTs and bitwig builtins couldn't scratch the itch but I goddamn made it myself with the #microfreak today and IM SO SATISFIED

It turns out it's a super basic sound to make actually, I think the physical knobs just help with the experimentation process.

Some #sound #studio timeline updates. I've added an LED strip to the back of the table, started setting up three cameras for recordings and later live streams. And two pics of a bunch of synths (#MicroFreak, #minilogue_xd, #dfam, #neutron and a few others) that I'll use soonâ„¢.

Table, my view. Ready for synths and stuff. Pink LED strip in the back, warm light, black table.Three cameras showing the same table from different angles. Angles not final (I'll pull all of them back a bit I think).Synths on shelves: MicroFreak, minilogue XD, DFAM, Neutron, Analog Heat MkII, Lemondrop, Razzmatazz, JD-08.My hands with black nail varnish greedily grabbing a Neutron.

Instrument shop had an in-store 0% financing sale this weekend so I finally pulled the trigger and ordered a #Microfreak as my first (hardware) synth!

Used up some lieu time to go pick it up and spend the day learning it.... aaand it looks like it won't arrive in-store till Monday after the financing deal is over ;_;

The samples I prepped for last year's #FAWM are really good, y'all. And the patches I made out of them on the #MicroFreak are a gift that keeps on giving.
