It can be rewarding to go through #mc707 presets with a fine comb: Every now and then there's quite a surprise waiting in the depths of all those parameters, usually in the form of disabled partials (aka oscillators). Once enabled, those partials reveal completely new sides of the preset ... other sound designs that would have been possible but were "discarded" for whatever reason. I'll try to collect a few here. Happy to hear about your discoveries as well!

I have owned my #MC707 for just under a year at this point

I have, up until now, used only presets. I have done a small amount of editing of sounds, but everything has started from a preset. In case you don't know the preset library is massive

This week I have started getting serious about building a live set

Today I got serious about doing some #sounddesign in the device

That feeling when you spend an hour trying to figure out why a snare drum is only playing every other 2 bars only to find out the preset designer thought it would be a good idea to put an LFO on the volume of only the snare.

Designer: "to heck with the pattern, it will be fun to make the snare disappear for half the song right?"

QA: "Ship it!"

"Simple Trap" is the kit on the #MC707 just in case your machine is trying to make you think you are losing your mind as mine was this morning...

@phf I am having a blast with my #mc707. It is a fun workflow when I am tired of staring at a computer screen. The Zencore engine #Roland have made is really powerful once you get your head around it.

I don't know what's wrong with my brain but now I want a Roland TR-8S after all. It's all those ACB drum models, at least that's what I tell myself. That means I'll have to sell the SYSTEM-1m again. Well, I found out that I can do most of it with the MC-707 virtual analog stuff anyway, except of course for the "fancier" oscillator shapes. On the other hand I could probably sample those? I don't know, this #system1m just doesn't make me happy. Maybe something is wrong with me? This is the best "normal" synth sound I've been able to coax out of it so far. And it's not like I can't get that out of my #mc707 by itself. Actually I'd have another LFO and a bunch more filter/effect options on that thing. How does it sound to you? (Cheap 909 backdrop courtesy of #mc707 of course.)

I've been annoyed as all heck by my #mc707 not sending proper bank select MIDI on clip changes. Turns out that they simply reversed what MSB and LSB mean in the #mc707 clip settings tab. The #jv1010 manual says, for example, "MSB 81 LSB 3" to select some bank but if you put "MSB 81 LSB 3" into the clip settings that will NOT send the correct bank select. Only if you put "MSB 3 LSB 81" (the exact WRONG thing) will this shit actually work. Yes, latest 1.81 firmware. Hey #roland maybe fix that?

And yet another #mc707 bug: If a clip sends program change then the first two 16th notes on that clip don't send proper velocity information. Just great. Come on #roland you've been doing this for decades, why are you still getting it wrong? 😠

The other day I actually ran into voice stealing on the #mc707 and it wasn't pretty. I had to edit a bunch of sounds to remove some partials/voices and to pick a less expensive filter type. Trying to compensate for that I just ordered myself one of those ancient #jv1010 expanders. I hope that playing big pad/string chords from that and the rest from the #mc707 will solve my issues for the foreseeable future. Also now I can hunt in earnest for the old "Asia" expansion card... 😄
