Fans of Mikhail Bulgakov’s modern classic The Master and Margarita, which was first written in the Soviet Union between 1928 and 1940 and officially published in Paris in 1967, will be happy to know that a new animated feature based on the book is in the works.

Mikhail Bulgakov (Михаи́л Булга́ков) (Kiev, Império Russo, 15 de Maio de 1891 — Moscovo, 10 de Março de 1940), escritor e médico, enquanto estudante de Medicina, em Kiev.

#FinishedReading this oddball classic about the Devil and his retinue causing havoc in Soviet Moscow. Some of it is a riot, some of it is a bit obscure now (Bulgakov has some scores to settle about how the historicity of Jesus was debated in 1920s and 30s Russia!), and it is a bit repetitive, but overall still an interesting read. #Bookstodon @bookstodon #MikhailBulgakov

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: "𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗗𝗼𝗴" 𝗯𝘆 𝗠𝗶𝗸𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗴𝗮𝗸𝗼𝘃 -

While not as fully realized as some of his other works, this novella still packs some creative and absurd punches at the early Soviet Union (and the rest of us) by offering a dog the physical attributes of humans and then poses the political question of who we are.

Bulgakov, again at his absurd and political best, turns a stray dog into a man . . . well, at least we think that is the direction of the transformation. A funny and biting take on the proletariat in the Soviet Union.

Digging through the archives... Speaking as simultaneously - a collector of early editions of my favourite works of #literature of the 20th century, as well as someone who still has has a pretty extensive collection of 70s & 80s early #DnD #rpg #games - it blows my mind that the er shall we say street value of a first (English) edition of one of the greatest #novels of the 20th century - Master & Margarita by #MikhailBulgakov - is roughly similar to the going price of a 1981 boxed copy of Moldvay Basic D&D. Not making a particular judgement about the decline of values of Western Civilisation (there's nothing wrong with old-school D&D, after all!), but still, it's worth noting. Either way, I won't be selling either any time soon.

A book & a box. Left is a hardcover first editon of The Master & Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov, with abstract painting and right is a slightly tatty boxed copy of Basic Dungeons & Dragons with a typical fantasy dragon wizard combat thing happening. Sorry my descriptive abilities are not better at this time of the evening.

It is through the interaction with others that we achieve to transcend the bubble that limits our personal growth.

I found this extravagant copy of "" by Soviet writer at a friend's house. I can't read it, but each...

Look - it's Friday! Have five more random encounters from the week: #InternationalWomensDay & #SpeculativeFiction; finding #MikhailBulgakov in our local #LittleFreeLibrary; an art exhibition I won't see & memories of Prague; place names that I did see from the #Luas; an ancient manuscript with the single instance of a word...maybe.

Reading a collection of stories by Mikhail Bulgakov, who started out as a doctor. His specialty was venereal disease, which seems appropriate for a satirist: treating ailments people try to pretend don’t exist.

The love in "Doctor Zhivago" and in Mikhail Bulgakov's "The Master and Margarita", the love of the heroes of Mayakovsky, Hemingway and Orwell, is determined contrary to the directives of the century. Contrary to public morality as well. Love was all the more acute because it was accompanied by the fear of non-existence.

This is a character from a book I read earlier this year. It's about a dog which gets part of a human brain spliced with its own, and slowly transforms into an unpleasant man/dog hybrid. (In truth, I had quite a bit of sympathy for the dog--it seemed to want to champion workers' rights, which its wealthy master opposed. But I might not have understood properly, as the text was in Russian, which I speak very badly.)

A black-and-white drawing of a sly-looking creature, somewhere between man and dog. It has a surgical scar on its forehead, and is wearing a fur coat. There is text on the picture, which says "Собачье сердце" ("Heart of a Dog"), which is the title of a book. The dog's name is Sharik, which means "ball."
