Dear FediLazy:
Being as CD Baby is slowly enshittifying, do folks have a recommended replacement for getting your indie musics uploaded to Tidal, Deezer, Qobuz, YTMusic, etc? Distrokid appears to be one choice, but I'm open to more options. The initial ask, for a good friend, is US-centric but I'm also interested in EU-centric or UK-centric as well, since I'm hoping to help people in those markets too.

Why do artists HAVE to use a third-party distributor just to get on Spotify? We're paying a middleman fees/cuts on already low royalties. If you could change ONE thing about streaming, what would it be? 🤔

Hi! I'm a Bandcamp-fan since many years, but I'm an even bigger fan of challanging bandcamps monopoly in the distrubution-sector of independent-artists.

So what's your opinion on Bandcamp-Alternatives Mirlo vs. Subvert?

Subvert certainly got their CI right, but I can't find anythong on the code being free or proprietery, for example: subvert.fm/

Mirlo looks good, kinda like a crossing between soundship/funkwhale and bandcamp: mirlo.space/

Which one do you think has potential to grow out of the superniche, have a wide spectrum of artists and stay community-owned & chill?

And what's the deal with Tidal?

I see distribution as the last stage of sound design. Choose an aggregator that secures your rights. Craft precise metadata and visuals. Map a release schedule. Activate pre-saves. Study streaming analytics to inform your next track.

Two things!

1st: New track
#release: "Goin' Mirlo".
-
https://mirlo.space/die-nmi/release/various

Why is that?

2nd: Because I moved most of my stuff away from
#Soundcloud today. This company is now feeding my work to unspecified AI companies, and no. I am sick of doing free creative commons for company suckers. I do music for humans. Not for AI. So good bye, soundcloud.

What remains there is an
#antifa track (can't be wrong to train AIs to be anti fascist), an old noisy track of mine from 1989, and this one. To cut deeply into their flesh or so :)

I can only recommend to do that to other musicians as well, as long as you don't want to have strange AI clones of your music around (but without your spirit) and other people making money out of it.

If you move away, try to stay away from shady dark patterns infested "upload your music" services.

Personally I've decided to move from Soundcloud to
#Mirlo Space (hence the title) - here are those guys: @mirlo@musician.social . I've watched them for almost a year trying to enable something different, something cooperative style for and together with musicians and not for some companies sake. Trust takes time, and I think I can trust the Mirlo gang now ;) .

You still have other options in case you wanna move away from Soundcloud – a complete other model would be i.E. self hosting your
#music with something as cool as #faircamp . Just don't stumble into the fangs of the next musicians spirits sucking company, doing this not for your benefit but for their shareholders. That won't go well. Never unfortunately.

Ah, 1996: the year David Bowie heroically battled dial-up speeds to bring us the future of music distribution—only 29 years too early! 🎸💾 The article nostalgically recollects a time when downloading a single song was as thrilling as watching paint dry, while glorifying Bowie as a digital Nostradamus. 🌐📞

Oh but but we don't mind, we are "just streaming" music.
Fine, so you are just playing poor sonic tapestry barely paying any attention doesn't at all mean listening. The later almost became an art.
