Great survey last night here in Texas.
Saw 9 black rails and 1 yellow rail!
Caught 6 black rails!
Took feather samples so we can assess with stable isotopes if they are resident or winter migrants.
3 of the birds we caught were banded in november by colleagues on the project, these recaps help us understand how they use a site.
All birds captured and handled by trained professionals with all the permits.
Did our first survey for Black and Yellow Rails last night here in Texas, didn't see any rails, but a solid first night of learning for the new folks, and some gorgeous wetlands
also a few mosquitoes
on the Texas coast for the next 9 days or so trying to catch some Yellow and Black Rails as a part of #NOAAFirebird
