“A number of folks work less than 60 hours and a small number put in the bare minimum to get by,” he wrote. “This last group is not only unproductive but also can be highly demoralizing to everyone else.”

60 hours per week. No respect for the Sabbath, health, or family life, evidently.

Apparently Jeff Bezos has directed the editorial staff at WashPo to only write in support of free markets and personal liberties.

You know, free markets like Amazon.

I'm on my way to full #degoogle ops... I've started a trial of #fastmail (fastmail.com), and am hoping to fully transition my domain over for email/ calendar in the next month.

PSA / FYI: Adobe is a POS company... as is any company whose business model involves free trials that automatically transition to paid subscriptions... and especially when those paid subscriptions try to automatically be a 1-year minimum contract.

And by the way, maybe double check first that your free trial isn't going to a minor, who can't legally enter into your ludicrous contract in the first place! Idiots.

#CISA gets downsized (presumably).

Prediction:
1. Increased rate of cybersecurity incidents in USG.
2. Leaders decry the sad state of USG cybersecurity.
3. Private corporations get pulled in to handle it all.
4. Keys to the kingdom go to the #TechBros.

Question: What would happen if copyright/IP didn't exist?

This was (kind of) the case pre-1700, I believe.

Who would get hurt, once industries adapted?

Would writers stop writing?
Would musicians stop making music?
Would no one write software?

Is there a world in which this would ultimately, only hurt the rent-seekers?

This may be my seventh level of hell mindset, but...

The thing I see as the ultimate privacy/ security concern is the root of trust (RoT) or Root of Security (RoS). Why trust any of your apps, if you can't trust the ultimate issuer? The hardware manufacturer (probably a #TechBro) has control over that...

AI Hope: (probably a faint hope)

Tons of people will host DeepSeek-derived chat bots (open source, apparently), trained on open source data sets, and bust the chatbot bubble for OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, etc..

A guy can hope...

AI Irony:

OpenAI whining about DeepSeek training on OpenAI's IP?

Kinda like everyone else pissed about OpenAI training on their IP...

I've started deleting apps from my phone, and replacing them with home screen links to corresponding browser pages, under the theory that it should be easier to prevent ads/tracking via a browser page than an opaque app.

Wealth translates to power (ie. you can bend people to your will via wealth).

Democracy is power to/from the people.

We claim equality. All people are valued as equal valid, that is, invaluable as humans created in God's image.

This combination results in a requirement that the ability to influence via wealth--i.e. to distort power toward the wealthy--be limited.

@ErikUden I'm going to go out on a limb and say, any big company (western company? not sure). I think this is inevitable once (a) you're too big, and (b) you're supported by a bunch of investors. Competition isn't going to drive any innovation, so now you gotta keep the investors happy by raising rents and cutting costs. #NoTechBros

Following up on my last post linking to the Cory D enshittification article... I noted my raised eyebrow on IP law re: browsers vs. apps.

So, I work in Anti-Tamper. One maxim for us, in protecting critical software, is considering object code == source code. If you want to prevent an end user from accessing your critical software algorithms, you can't even give them object code...

Which I guess is why the tech bros turn to IP law...

I have used Firefox (mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/) and other Mozilla products for years... really since the days of Netscape Navigator and then Communicator. It's certainly not the only alternative, and I know some folks have issues with it, but it's a way to dodge Chrome and it's tracking...

A non-exhaustive list of plugins I use:
- KeePassXC-Browser
- uBlock Origin
- Privacy Badger
- Firefox Multi-Account containers

Going to start posting a bit about my efforts to De-Google my life... but it's more than De-Googling. It's also De-Meta-ing, De-Microsofting (I don't have to worry about De-Appling), etc. Really it's about trying to exit the surveillance economy as much as possible.

First up will be Firefox...
