#fastmail

Was going through some of the talks and noticed one on something called maintained by mainly for managing/syncing contacts and calendars. Is there anything in terms of self hosting a server yet that i can then develop something that will connect to it? I see someone made a nextcloud proxy but i dont really want to spin up a massive nextcloud server just for contacts/calendar. Id like to use it for so hopefully gnome/kde support it upstream at some point.

JMAP is coming to Thunderbird for iOS. As a Fastmail user, this makes me extremely happy.

@rhelune I've been using #Thuinderbird with #Fastmail for years, and I'm a satisfied user. The setup is easy and secure. Just be advised you will need to create an IMAP password for the client. (It won't use your main login password, which is good.)

Which email service (not self hosted for 2 reasons, effort, and deny-listing) do you recommend for own domain addresses, that has IMAP access and is not US nor EU/UK (not crazy about Russia either, but perhaps distributing my data over different dictatorships is not the worst idea, they will never work together to get the full picture)?

I currently use Zoho, the free one, no IMAP, just web mail, no PGP, so I encrypt a text file with what I would normally write in the email body and attach, but that makes communication with non-IT people difficult. Now I want something I can simply use in Thunderbird and I am willing to pay.

Fastmail?

For : Even with tracker blocking and a privacy-focused browser, using a surveillance-based search engine undermines your privacy stack.

We've joined Kagi's "Friends of Kagi" program. Kagi is a paid search engine with no tracking, no behavioural profiling, and no ad-based business model—aligned with our approach to sustainable, user-funded services.

I Moved from Proton Mail to Fastmail — Here’s Why:

Knock on wood, but #fastmail was a big help mitigating an email leak. An email address of mine was receiving verification emails for services I hadn't signed up for about once per minute. I flipped a switch to bounce all mail to that address, and 24 hours later I'm not receiving any more 👍

Why don't you hear about Perl in the headlines? Because it works. And keeps working. Sometimes the best technology is the most boring.

I am a heavy use of filtering on my FastMail account (63 filtering rules).

fastmail.com/blog/email-organi

I found a problem where marketing emails from one source were not getting filtered. I opened a ticket. They diagnosed the problem as a standards non-compliant "List-Id" header.

But they put in a fix anyway. 9 days from report to fixed in prod. Not bad.

@fastmail Unless you announce plans for EU hosting I'll be making my email safer by moving from #Fastmail.

Today is Change Your Password Day 🔐
But changing passwords constantly doesn’t make you safer.

What does?
✔️ Unique passwords
✔️ Password managers
✔️ Passkeys (no passwords at all)

Being better with passwords

This week in #disenshittification :

Finally cut the Gmail cord and moved to #fastmail

Took a few hours of futzing with DNS settings at my registrar, getting to know #thunderbird , and figuring out what to use for calendar because unlike on the dektop #Thunderbird doesn't include the calendar on #android .

Eventually landed on #Etar synced to #fastmail via #DAVx .Setup was quite smooth. Really the biggest time sink was in deciding what to use.

This was one of the big steps towards liberating myself from Google's clutches. I'm very glad it's done.

@jacques @zackwhittaker #Fastmail is hosted in the US. US can violate privacy at will and require non-disclosure.

Asking the Fedi Hive Mind, is it worth switching from #Fastmail to #Tuta?

I’m already paying a $2.99/month ransom (for 200 GB storage) to Apple, so I finally forced myself to delete the vast majority of things in #Google Photos & Drive and dump it in my external SSD 🙌 (Google Takeout data is absolute garbage… but I’ll figure it out later.)

I still need Google Calendar & Maps, but I’m switching my primary email to #Fastmail and test driving the #Kagi search engine + their Orion browser on iOS because they just released a Linux alpha! 🙂

The “Emails will stop in 8 days because you're out of storage” popup ransom note from Google.Even if you cut down to < 15 GB, Google will now try to upsell you with more storage, 100 GB for $1.99/month. Fuck off, Google!

Hat wer Fastmail-Labels und Paperless erfolgreich verbunden?
