After doing a bunch of #gigwork #DoorDash and other odd jobs to pay for various/sundry requirements of TCC's nursing program, I had a bit of spare money left over for June. Closing June out by becoming a normal member of the Open Street Map Foundation for a year (and hopefully many more).

@openstreetmap Alas, while I have been an active contributor for a while, I have not been a Normal Member of the OSMF. Maybe next round :P In the meantime, I'll sign up as an OSMF Normal Member.

For the last 2 years, the Local Chapters and Communities Working Group (LCCWG) conducted multiple consultations, in conferences, online and face to face, synchronous and asynchronous, on how we can improve the OSMF Affiliation Model. All of them are documented in the OSM Wiki

I think one of the ways #OpenStreetMap Foundation can stay true in its Diversity Statement [1] and to put it in action is improving its Local Chapters processes and Affiliation Model. Currently, OSMF has 18 Local Chapters, only 5 of which is outside the European region.

This Saturday, the Local Chapters and Communities Working Group (LCCWG) will be hosting our first OSMF #Affiliation Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with thematic & non-geographical groups.

If you and your organization is part of this group or you want to learn more and share your opinions, we invite you to join us on 26 April at 12:00 UTC.

RSVP and Room link can be found in osmcal 👉🏼 osmcal.org/event/3579

Please extend the invitation to you network! Thank you! #OpenStreetMap #osmf

I also shared this and a brief personal reflection in my diary: openstreetmap.org/user/arnalie

As closing, my hope for the OSMF is to continue to push for gender and geographic representation and inclusive participation in leadership spaces as well as increase transparency and commitment to open collaboration among its board, members and the community.

I was thinking of sharing my experience and reflection for my second year as an OSMF board member, like I did in my first year, then thought, it would be better and greater to write it with my co-board members.

Together with my 2024 fellow board members, Craig, Dani, Mateusz, Roland and Sarah, we are grateful to share our Collective Board Report for the 2024 Year of the OSMF.

#osmf mailing list going nuclear today. Steve Coast has a, possibly unique, ability to trigger people even when he makes a reasonable point

Congratulations to Craig Allan, Maurizio Napolitano, Laura Mugeha and Héctor Ochoa Ortiz on being elected to the OpenStreetMap Foundation Board of Directions at the 2024 AGM. 👏

And struck that use of nem. con. (collinsdictionary.com/dictiona) would help in #OSMF AGM. Just as in many similar meetings.

Especially helpful when the meeting is on-line and slightly asynchronous because of typing speeds.

Not had much time to follow the #OSMF board election, but have voted nonetheless.

Still disappointed that formal statements from the board are not obviously available (chair's report) or very skimpy (treasurer's report). I believe these should be available before nominations for board candidates close.

I'm also still missing an agenda item for OSMF members to vote thanks for all who volunteer for the board, working groups etc. It's a simple thing, but it's surprisingly heartening for all.

I have collaborated with both Courtney Williamson & Michael Montani in OSMF Working Groups. Courtney has supported the Communication WG as well as led the OSMF Fundraising campaign. Michael is supporting communities and setting up guidelines with the Local Chapters and Communities Working Group.

🆙 Remember to vote! Ballots are out for the OpenStreetMap Foundation Board Elections! 🗳

Deadline: Saturday, 19 October 2024, 16:00UTC

4 board seats are vacant; 10 candidates - 2 women, 8 men, from 9 countries and 5 regions! This is the most diverse makeup of candidates I have seen so far for the OSMF Board! 🙂

You can check the candidates' manifestos and answers to questions on the wiki: wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Fo

I would also like to vouch the commitment to open collaboration of my fellow board member Craig Allan who is re-running. He has led setting up internal policies, structure to the OSMF Finance Committee, and used his great facilitation skills to ensure constructive and welcoming spaces within the Board channels.

#openstreetmap #osmf #osmfelections

To share, I have personally been encouraging Laura Mugeha (Kenya, Africa) and Andres Gomez Casanova (Colombia, South America) to run since like 2 years ago (the same time I ran for Board). Representation is very important for me and I've witnessed how these two leaders grow their community at national, regional, and global level.

We have 3 candidates from Asia: Can Ünen, Brazil Singh & Arun Ganesh. And I do hope we get another representation from our region 🙂
#openstreetmap #osmf

Lots of them I know, have collaborated in community initiatives, Working Groups, met at SotMs, and even worked as fellow board members and colleagues.

Diversity and dedication makes a huge difference when you are in a position of power such as the board. So I am putting representation and commitment to OSMF on my ballot. 🗳
