Pas très youplaboum comme ambiance, mais je peux aussi animer des goûters d'enfants afin de les rendre totalement éco-anxieux et leur donner envie de brandir des cocktails molotov, si ça vous dit. I solved the problem by teaming up with a colleague who is able to print at work* and steal the paper and ink from our employer.

Also now I understand why the #Octatrack does not come with a printed version of the manual.

*) I'm not able to print because there's no Linux support for the print solution we have.

A photo of a self printed 145 page manual, in a nice spiral spine. It's surprisingly huge.

Is an #octatrack a sellable commodity? Every time I take a break from using mine and come back to it, I have to learn how to use it again. I know what it’s capable of but, in my opinion, it doesn’t have the best trouble / fun ratio.

Just found out a new Octatrack here in Norway costs around 4000 NOK more (roughly 370 usd) than when I bought mine 3-4 years ago (current price 18 000 NOK) And while the Octa has received a paint job and some UX improvements it is internally the same device as when launched 10+ years ago. Don’t get me wrong, the Octatrack is an awesome machine and I understand how both inflation and shortages on parts are causing this price, but it cannot be considered a realistic pick for young, underground musicians (maybe it never was). For 18k NOK you can get a very nice laptop, a multipurpose device that does way more than a single groovebox/sampler ever can do. And don’t get me started on Teenage Engineering and their boutique devices. I don’t buy gear anymore, luckily I got what I need, but more importantly it’s just too expensive.
