#Elektron devices are still new to me, and I'm still learning how to use them. And I keep forgetting the shortcuts! So I created an interactive list for searching shortcuts, because I don't want to keep looking them up in the manual or asking questions and trusting some LLM.
I am sharing this with the rest of the world.

Digitone has landed

I bought an Elektron Digitone II at Wired Tunes a month ago. It’s a tiny box oF Magic.
In this jam, Condukt, running on the iPhone, is giving me a helping hand and fading in the kick and its sidechain compression.
Not sure where it leaves me. I'm not a big fan of #MPC workflow but I have this growing feeling #Elektron did not get the memo. Since the release of #Syntakt (and then mk2 #Digitakt and mk2 #Digitone) it seems Elektron has very little insight to how their instruments are used and who are the ppl using these. For me personally these instruments are failures. After that Tonverk was this one opportunity to make things right and combine the previous efforts into one #groovebox style #instrument.
Here's a good introduction to FM-syntesis by @etherdiver https://www.etherdiver.com/how-to-synth-a-guide-to-programming-synthesizers/fm-basics-i/
I've owned, and made music on, a #Digitone for a while, and making sounds often consists of tweaking things til they sound good, and trying to investigate the factory-default sounds. I'm not really a "study person", more into a trial and error.
Anyway, following the examples, and just limiting oneself to one modulator and carrier, made me a bit clearer what's actually going on.
Back to working with #Digitone for a new project and still being impressed how well thought and versatile #synthesiser this little box is. #Digital synths tend to have their own #sound and that is not a bad thing but this one covers much more ground compared with virtual analog and #FM instruments. Tempted to buy the #Keys version but man that's an ugly beast. Sound however is top notch.
Working with the original #Digitone #synth again and appreciate its great #layout. It's 4 parts or 4 voices (similar to my other digital favour, #Nord Rack 3) and there are 4 friendly buttons next to the keyboard for voice selection. This is maybe the best part of the entire #interface and it's also what got butchered in mk2, boo! Differently from the Nord, Digitone has an #effects section on board and that's the only caveat for me.
You can name data entry knobs for CC values in MIDI tracks on #elektron #digitakt or #digitone!
I couldn't figure it out, even though I've done it before. But the internet was telling me it was not possible. Of course it is, it's in the manual - Appendix A.
Press and hold [FUNC] and then press and hold any DATA ENTRY knob to access the naming screen 🤦♂️
For some reason I made a video where I play through a rough sketch of a new song I'm currently making in the synthwave-style. Melodic parts are mainly finished, but drums needs some more work.

I think the main reason was technical curiosity to try out #Hyper8 (a self hosted static site generator for video), but it led to gaining motivation to continue working on this song. You never know which things leads to other things...
On contrary, what I like working with the #Elektron #Digitakt and #Digitone is their #large #friendly #displays that are so easy to look at. Elektron does not use the latest technology, the screens are not OLED or super high-resolution but are clear and well readable. I usually lower the LED and screen levels on my digi boxes because these are even too bright.
Progress report, day 2: The #osmose has been set up as #mpe controller for the #hydrasynth desktop and the #steampipe. It took an anonymous poster to help me figure out how to send mpe to the steampipe (reduce the midi channels/voices to 8). The recording below titled “The puppet dances” - my first recoding for this configuration - is a tribute to our dear leader Marionetka Krasnov. Next stop, adding the #digitone for sequencing and percussion.

Back to my regular style, that is the style of melodic shimmering synths and natural sounding drums. Also leans heavily on the "303"-patch for #Digitone previously used in Strange Data: https://desolationpark.se/strange-data/ which in turn was inspired by this: https://inv.nadeko.net/watch?v=ibX9hxcMWKI (alt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibX9hxcMWKI)

Haven't been motivated the last couple of days, but today I made something that I'm pretty satisfied with.
Continuing experimenting with with databending samples, but more focus on melody, with the samples as percussion and background effects
All percussion samples except the kick are sourced from data (Amiga disk-images and trackermusic modules, like last time) and sequenced with the #Digitakt. Melodic parts played on the #Digitone.
