George Bruce died 28 September 1878 in Iquique, Tarapaca, Peru (now Chile) "thrown into the water by the capsizing of a small boat". Master of the the barque Ringdove, Greenock at the time. Son of Benjamin Bruce & Ellen Corrigill, Little Ayre, North Walls, born around 1831. Married twice: Jemima Ross, 1864; Ann Malcomson, 1870; both North Walls. Grace Cantley was baptised on 24 September 1835, youngest child of Nathaniel Cantley and Margaret Moar.. Her father was a Chelsea Pensioner and gardener at #Melsetter (the big hoose), originally from #Kirkcudbrightshire.
Grace married John Wilson, Scews, North Walls, in 1856. They moved to the Crockness area where Grace died on 6 February 1880 shortly after the birth of her ninth child.

“John George Heddle, Landed Proprietor... died 1869 September 23rd, 6h pm, in the Links near Melsetter Parish of Walls, #Orkney, M, aged 49 years... of a Gun Shot wound severing the Spine and passing into the abdomen caused by the accidental discharge of a fowling piece”. He was the owner of most of Walls, Hoy and land on the Orkney mainland.

22 September 1814 William Johnston from Brims, Walls #Orkney married Ann Mackay, Dispoly, in Reay parish #Caithness. They lived in Brims and had at least 9 children. Ann died in 1870 aged 72; William a fisherman and farmer died in 1880 aged 93.
Wives from "across the [Pentland] Firth" were not uncommon in Walls. Dispoly (Deasphollag) was in Strath Halladale, Sutherland.

#OnThisDay #NorthWallsAndBrims 18 September 1879 William Groundwater and Ann Ward married in #Stromness, #Orkney, though both lived in Walls, William farmed Mucklehouse (aka Ore) and Ann lived at Summer Cleary. In 1880 they had girl #triplets who died soon after birth. They later had four sons who lived to adulthood. William Sangster married Isabella Sutherland on 14 Sept 1876 in Walls #Orkney. He was a 1st Mate; she was from Haybrake, North Walls. They had one son, George. Isabella died in 1885; William remarried, his family lived in Stromness, Orkney. He died in Glasgow in 1896.
