Somebody on another platform is #cycletouring Britain ticking off millennium mileposts. He's heading to #orkney now and trying to track down if the three indicated on thie map ever existed. Does anyone have any info or old pictures?

Stromness. Indian Ink and White Chalk on Brown Paper. A sketch I did as a youngster, when I first visited Orkney at the age of 19, and started a life-long love affair with these islands.

There's nowhere quite like Stromness in Orkney. It stretches for over a mile along the shore of Hamnavoe, an inlet of Scapa Flow. The core of the town is a main street that twists and turns between the shoreline and the hillside behind. More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/str

The pier at Stromness in Orkney, on the shore of Hamnavoe, an inlet of Scapa Flow. The background view is of the islands of Graemsay (at low level) and Hoy (at higher level). More pics and info: undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/str

The pier at Stromness in Orkney. The image shows the pier entering the lower left of the frame and curving around to the right. Numerous boats are moored to the pier, mostly facing the viewer. One of them is a lifeboat. In the background are two levels of land, a low island and a rather higher one beyond it. The sky is blue.

Stromness harbour around and after sunrise this morning. Why did I wake up before 6am?

* Looking across to the mountains on Hoy
* Rowing boat in the mist
* Main pier with misty houses behind
* Golden light from the sunrise on ripples from the outgoing ferry

Looking out across a wide channel to distant mountains, their peaks wreathed in cloud. It's just after sunriseA rowing boat gently bobbing on ripples from an outgoing boat. It's misty and tinged with blue because the sunrise is happening somewhere behind thick clouds on the horizonTwo large boats tied up to a pier. Behind them, mist clings around the roofs of low houses, and in the distance a cellphone toward stands at the top of a low hill with warm sunrise skies behindBright golden light and dark shadows across rippling water, with an even brighter distorted sun visible near the upper left corner

Funny on the *very* narrow high street of the town of , seen while waiting for the ferry. The fourth sign... well, the jokes just write themselves.

Had a lovely week in Orkney with @GrahamCampbell to celebrate our 10th anniversary! We met in Orkney a little over 10 years ago - back then we camped in this spot next to the Hoy Sound, but I'm glad to have stayed somewhere more windproof this time around 🥰

A photo taken from just above ground level of a couple facing away, holding hands, looking across a narrow passage of sea (the Hoy Sound) towards an island (Hoy) with a couple of hills on it. There is grass in the foreground; another, flat, island (Graemsay) to the left; and a rockier section with an old lookout and shed to the right of the couple. The couple are a woman on the left wearing a bright green raincoat and a man on the right wearing a bright blue raincoat with navy shoulders and sleeves.

Thanks to those that came to the #film premiere of Dimittit In Artes in #Stromness last night. It seems to have gone down well and left people thinking.

Anyone know any film distributers?! IMO an art film like this would be perfect for #Mubi but they don't accept unsolicited submissions...

Vernon Bradley and Magnus Erlendsson sitting either side of one of Vernon's paintings. The whole image is textured like the painting. Quote from Ovid says "And he sent forth his mind to unknown arts."

Vernon Bradley: Dimittit In Artes is premiering at #Stromness Community Centre in #Orkney tomorrow at 7.30. Tickets £5 on the door. Not suitable for children.

Vernon Bradley thinks this #film is about him, but for me it's about #Ovid.

NHS's consultants NORR recommend planting trees and a wildflower patch despite #Stromness surgery already having a wildflower patch and the wall has apple trees and herbs planted along it and a sign that says what it is.
From the planing application description of the sight it looks very like what you would see from Google Street view which was last updated in this part of #Orkney in 2009.
So it looks like 8 years of work by community volunteers is going to be undone by "planning by Google".
