After 3 years of advocacy and research with @ColoradoMtnClub, I'm thrilled to see SB-58 signed into law by Gov. Polis, ensuring our beloved 14ers stay open. Huge thanks to everyone involved! Let's keep advocating for outdoor access. ๐Ÿ”๏ธ

Free the Radical Road!

This historic route up Arthur's Seat was built in 1820 by unemployed "radical" weavers who had threatened insurrection in the face of starvation. It gives amazing views of Edinburgh and Salisbury Crags. It's top of my list in Edinburgh for geology and history. It's been closed for FIVE YEARS over rockfall fears, but Historic Environment Scotland has done nothing to make it safe/open it.

Screenshot from the Ramblers Scotland petition page with the words:

"Sign the petition now!
Historic Environment Scotland (HES) unilaterally shut Edinburgh's iconic Radical Road path in Holyrood Park on 11 September 2018 due to concerns about rockfall.

Sadly, half a decade later the 200-year-old recorded Right of Way remains shut."

There is also a picture of a locked gate with a notice that says "Path closed, danger of falling rock"

Itโ€™s Up to Us is a campaign by Mountaineering Scotland and the Outdoor Access Trust for Scotland (OATS) to raise awareness of the desperate need for investment in the repair and maintenance of informal mountain paths to protect the fragile mountain environment and for the safety of path users.

Lovely to see lots of new followers on here, (as well as some well kent faces). Thought it might be time to introduce myself again...

I work full time as a freelance Mountain Leader, both for my own small business on Arran, and also other providers. I assess DofE expeds and work on Mountain Leader courses.

I toot mostly about:

#Wildlife
#Scotland
#OutdoorAccess
#DogsOfMastodon
#CatsOfMastodon
#Environment
#Arran
#IslandLife

Iโ€™m not intending to post too much work stuff on here, but this is one project Iโ€™m particularly proud of and which may be of interest to new followers who are interested in , , , ,

Naturally reluctant to talk about myself online so a slight cringe as I do this #introduction:

Followed early interests in #climbing, the #outdoors and #nature to work mostly in #outdooraccess and #conservation. Worked as an outdoor instructor, some years as a #nationalpark warden, a brief stint back at uni + then a small nature charity. Now happily working as a #walescoastpath advisor for #naturalresourceswales.

Very interested in #gis + evidence about our relationship with nature.
