The state of Alabama has passed a law banning the use of phones in schools as of next year. My fediverse friends, we absolutely will not be following this law next year.
I need IDEAS IDEAS IDEAS on funny ways to circumvent, protest, or otherwise convince school administration to rethink this policy.
My current #1 plan is to bring my collection of ~15 phones to school with me to school. There are obviously many many ways to accomplish this task, and I'm willing to try (almost) all of them.
The theoretical punishment for failing to follow this law is a misdemeanor, which is the same as jaywalking, or illegally entering the United States.
My goal is to prove to the Alabama Department of Education that the use of cell phones in schools and classrooms is both not the solution they think it is to improve classroom performance, and not the most prevalent problem in Alabama school systems today. Keep in mind, they are treating phones as more dangerous than vapes, which is both unhelpful and backwards.
I believe the Department of Education needs to shift their focus not on the use of cellphones in schools, but onto the quality of the education in Alabama's schools. Alabama consistently ranks either lowest or second lowest in education in the country, and I can almost guarantee to you that it is not due to the usage of phones in class.
Help me accomplish this goal! Ideas for different methods of protest, circumvention, malicious compliance, etc. are all appreciated.
