I want to scream in fury at every single Pride Organizer who is doing parades and parties that fail to have ANY pandemic mitigations nor mentions the genocidal campaigns against trans people.
What a white-washed, corporate-fueled, eugenic-washed hollow event. What the hell are these people celebrating?
Because LGBTQIA people like me can't go because the events that are supposedly "for" us aren't safe enough for us to attend.
Great to know that even my own community is eager to throw people like me away because we inconvenience people's desire for parties.
Pride was originally a riot/rebellion. We need that not goddamn mass-spreader parade events/street parties.
And before someone comes at me saying: "Oh, but we need parties to help us survive!"
Right. Parties will NOT keep people from dying/being-disabled-with-little-resources-for-survival from Covid and from genocidal anti-LGBTQIA laws.
We can party after we WIN. We ought to be using this month to really shove our needs to the forefront, to make the fight so blatant and unavoidable, to be the thorn in the system's side, to rip out the pillars of the system, to engage in mutual aid to keep one another alive.
Not engaging in mass spreader events! JFC. I'm so angry about this.
Our community rallied when the government mass abandoned us during AIDS, and we did what we could to try to save as many lives as we could.
We are seeing that government mass abandonment happen again with Covid. I've had more LGBTQIA folks die from Covid, get complications that threaten their lives, get disabled from Covid and then left with little to no resources, and yet where is the mutual aid helping us? Where is our community?
Why is pride not a mass organizing mutual aid event to SAVE OUR COMMUNITIES???
We're facing a pandemic and a rise of genocidal laws right now! Stop the corporate sponsored parades and start fighting for one another's survival please! Thanks.
