2020.
When 3 Coast Salish Indigenous Chiefs invited me to join their small lead boat crew to meet up with other boats from Campbell River, Comox, Lund, Quadra Island & Discovery Islands to block some restocking of open net fish farms & demand that they get out of BC waters.

Me, standing on a large fishing boat, looking solemn while holding two signs shaped like salmon. One sign reads "FISH FARM VIRUS FACTORY," and the other says "TEST ME FOR PSCINE REOVIRUS." The scene is in black and white, with water and a forested shoreline visible in the background, creating an atmosphere of protest against fish farming practices.

Tsahaukuse, George Quocksister Jr. is a #HereditaryChief of the #Laichkwiltach Nation and the son of Elizabeth and George Quocksister. He is a passionate advocate for the protection of #WildSalmon as a crucial part of his culture and the food security of his people, and is working to ban the practice of #SalmonFarming on the west coast. He lives in Campbell River, BC.

This is from our 2020 #DiscoveryIslands flotilla protest & restocking patrol with George & 2 other BC Indigenous Chiefs(Darren Blaney & Bill Wilson) from North Island regions.

The fight to get fish farms out of BC waters started in the late 80s & continues.

George holding up a bright neon sign that reads:

When the salmon return to rivers to spawn the bears, eagles, lots of critters bring the carcass into forests to feed on. This creates a nitrogen cycle which makes the forest grow. Which creates the air we breathe. Without the salmon Earth will die. There is a lot of science proof out there that says just that.Homalco Chief Darren Blaney & George Quocksister Jr, on fishing boat, facing the ocean & islands, wearing their Wild Salmon forever long-sleeved shirts. Darren in red, holding a wood salmon sign that reads, Test Me For Piscine Reovirus. George in black, wearing his cedar weaved hereditary Chief hat with beaded brim & eagle feather & holding a wooden salmon sign.

@rhfinearts

Lets hope we can protect all these fragile eco systems for future generations to enjoy. With WWII vets each year there are fewer to tell their stories. So the way we are going there will be fewer and fewer people to tell future generations what they remember about everglades when they are gone or damaged forever.
