It is certainly not the intention here, but having hands coming up out of the ground in a cemetery in front of a headstone is a bit creepy.

#cemetery #creepy #hands #photography #queensnyc #nyc

The photo shows a small decorative sculpture placed on the ground among dry brown autumn leaves. At the center is a weathered, off-white cup or vase made of stone or resin. It’s stained with age, giving it a rough, mottled texture. Around the rim is an ornate carved pattern of swirls.

On the front of the cup, dark engraved letters read: “In God’s hands.”

At the base of the cup, a pair of sculpted hands—also made of the same worn, pale material—appear to rise from the ground and gently cradle it. The hands look soft in their shape but are chipped and dirt-stained, as if they’ve been outdoors a long time. Fallen leaves and bits of soil gather around the fingers.

Behind the cup is a gray stone background that suggests this might be part of a memorial or gravesite. The overall mood is quiet and solemn, with the object looking lovingly placed but aged by time and the outdoors.

City Council Approves Plan That Could Bring 14,700 Homes to Queens

fed.brid.gy/r/https://www.nyti

The proximity of Long Island City to Manhattan and the area’s access to several subway lines have made it an appealing location for developers.

I'm a co-lead at Jackson Heights Indivisible, where one of our programs is part of a citywide effort helping small businesses and workers understand their rights if ICE shows up.

The campaign now includes 14+ groups, reaching over 1,200 businesses, including over 100 in Jackson Heights!

Every $150 keeps this work going for another day.

Please donate if you can, any support is welcome! secure.actblue.com/donate/nufis

Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani’s appeals to renters during his mayoral campaign are well-known, but he also spent time working for a nonprofit that helps homeowners.

Anyone else in Queens confused by all the ballot questions + judge races this year? 😅

We’re doing a one-hour Ballot Breakdown to explain it all.

“Love is All” in Queens, NY (as it should be, everywhere). Artist info in the alt text.

2019 photo of street art on a building in Queens, NY by Shiro (lower level wraparound), ELLE (upper left), and Garrison Buxton (upper right) — all part of the Welling Court Mural Project, a community beautification initiative. (Buxton’s art also extends past left frame and features rainbow-colored stripes for Pride.) Find out more about the artists on their Instagram accounts: @shiro_one, @ellestreetart, and @thegarrisonbuxton.

Image description: A building exterior covered in street art, with the corner at the center of the photo and two walls receding towards left and right. On the first floor, wrapping around the corner to both sides, is a purple-skinned female figure with exaggerated cherubic features and makeup. Her open palms are spread toward the viewer. Hovering between them, like an offering, is a spray can with white feathered wings, labeled with the text LOVE IS ALL (with “is” in white letters inside a red heart). To her left is the artist’s tag SHIRO in giant stylized letters; to her right is the giant word YES! Both words are done in a variety of vibrant colors. Additional artwork is visible on the walls as they recede. On the second floor at left is a circular image of abstract shapes and colors, partially hidden by a commercial sign. At upper right is a grid of diamonds in rainbow colors, partly obscured by a sign for ARTAMUS RESTAURANT EQUIPMENT & SUPPLIES.

They put a big sculpture in my neighborhood in case any of us forget where we are. I've found a hidden inspirational message in it. 🏳️‍🌈🌐

Photo of a big sculpture in a park: large person-sized letters spelling out "Queens" atop a pedestal on which is written "The World's Borough."Selfie of the Undersigned standing in front of the sculpture, at a pose and angle at which his head blocks the right side of the "n" and the "s" in "Queens," and his extended hand blocks the "s" and "Borough" in "The World's Borough." This leads to the sculpture apparently forming the words "Queer The World."

The photo captures a dramatic moment of a small bird mid-flight with its wings fully extended upward. Its feathers are boldly patterned in contrasting light and dark streaks, giving it a striking appearance. The bird’s beak is open, and its eyes are focused intently on a tiny insect just inches ahead of it in the air—frozen in time as if it’s about to be caught. Its feet are curled and lifted slightly, suggesting it has just launched from a nearby branch, which arcs diagonally across the right side of the image. The background is softly blurred with shades of green and yellow, hinting at a leafy woodland setting. The entire scene conveys precision, motion, and a touch of wild intensity.

One of the regular Red-tailed Hawks from the cemetery down the street. I am almost guaranteed to see a raptor of some sort when going there, and I am there almost daily.

This photo shows a large bird of prey perched on a thick, mossy tree branch. The bird is facing away, but its head is turned sharply to the left, so you can clearly see its strong, curved beak and alert, piercing eye. Its feathers are a rich brown color, patterned with lighter streaks and spots, especially on its wings and tail. The bird’s legs are thick and powerful, with sharp talons gripping the branch firmly. The background is a blur of tree trunks and branches, with soft green and white tones suggesting a forested setting in late fall or early spring. The overall mood is quiet and watchful, as the bird seems to be surveying its surroundings.
