"This is my berry, there are many like it but this is mine, it is the best one, I chose it very carefully, & you may not have it"-- bratty Bay-breasted Warbler (breeding male)

The outlook today.
#Hills #Mulmur #Nature #Trees #Scenic #Trail I hear a #killdeer in the field along with #Crows and #BlueJays all around. The first of the black and white #warbler has just come through and the first of the #Woodthrush has arrived for the season. I notice a lot of outdoorsy type shows on TV use the song of wood thrushes in order to make it sound like nature I suppose. But it’s rare. #birdsong

I see dark moody clouds hanging over the sky. We’re not supposed to get rain, but I think I see showers off over towards the east. I keep saying that the trees will green up soon, but they actually will soon because the buds are starting and the first of the late season spring arrivals are arriving.

I'm going to share a couple of blurry-ish photos from Saturday. We took a walk to our pond in the evening and saw birds we'd never seen before: wood ducks and a yellow-rumped warbler. Neither one is particularly rare, but they're new for us.

A male and a female duck swim near the far edge of a small farm pond. The male has colorful markings -- black, white, green, and orange -- on its head. The female has the same shape as the male, but is drab with a white patches on the throat and around the eye. I think (hope) they are nesting in my little woods.A slender bird perches on a broken, dead horizontal willow branch. The bird is bigger (and more slender) than a sparrow. It has black and white markings on the body, head, and wings. There is a small, yellow-gold patch on its side. This coloration is called the "myrtle" variation. This bird is migration through toward the north.

First Palm Warbler this year: Unusually cold weather till first half of April has delayed their arrival by a couple of weeks.

This little fella is an adult male Townsend's Warbler! Its very tough getting a pic of them because they always have the zoomies. #warbler #nature #alaska #birding #birds

Here's the yellow throated warbler that showed up 9 days ago. I think he's going to stay for the summer--most years he does. #birds #birding #birdwatching #birdphotography #wildlife #wildlifephotography #photography #nature #naturephotography #HoosierMast #warbler

A yellow throated warbler is a tiny bird. It is black and white and gray all over with a striking yellow throat and upper chest. It likes the suet nuggets. I have heard him singing in the yard (he's amazing loud, for such a little guy), but have not seen a mate yet.

We had already walked miles in the state park & needed to rest our feet. Thankfully, there are benches throughout the park for tram stops. We weren't ready for the tram; we only wanted to sit & have some water.
What a perfect place for a break, as many Orange-crowned Warblers were zipping around the surrounding trees.

White-eye warbler. Not something I’ve seen before in our tree, and, it appears, not native to California. Seems to be more of an Asian bird if Wikipedia is correct.

During a hike last weekend, this fine looking Yellow-throated Warbler came down from the tree canopy and posed for pictures.

My wife and I hiked about 11 miles on eastern NC forest service trails, and didn't see another soul all day.

Other cool birds we encountered: Swainson's Warbler, Worm-eating Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler and Northern Parula.

It was a good day. 😃

A Yellow-throated Warbler perches facing the photographer but looking toward the left. The bird has a bright yellow throat. Its face has a black patch between the eye and the throat. The back part of its cheek is white. Each side of the belly is filled with thick black markings. The area surrounding the bird is a mixture of green vegetation and out-of-focus branches.
