Sometimes I seem to have an easy life as a queer person - I mean, at least I post a lot of positive things that happen to me, right? And I seem to not have any fear, only meet nice people, etc, etc.

Today I observed something on me: whenever I am outside, I am always on alert, looking at every single person, immediately analyzing, trying to read the person, and so on.

And then I realized: this is something I learned the moment I came to Germany. Because, here I was a stranger, a stranger in a strange world, and I didn't really look like a "Typical German" (in those days, it was clear how a "Typical German" does NOT LOOK like and I was one of those).

I heard a lot of slurs, experienced a lot of weird behavior. E.g., when, in those days, a German person started talking to me, they used some kind of super-primitive German, without waiting for me to speak first. Just so that you know, I finished my first full school class with "Best of School", it was the second year I was in Germany, including in "German Class".

And in those days, I learned to quickly "read the person", to quickly understand whether that person could pose a threat or not, or whether that person could, in fact, be an ally.

And this skill - well, I seem to have seamlessy transferred that skill to my life as a queer person: I am always on watch, always looking out, trying to "read the people" - as fast as I can.

And this way, I meet only nice and friendly people, kind, allies, and such. This doesn't mean that there are others here around me, it just means that my filters, my shields are so good that I don't meet them anymore, I even signal them to "just f*** off".
