It’s a good time to learn about GERD, a condition where stomach acid flows back into the esophagus and causes heartburn and other symptoms.
GERD happens when the valve between the stomach and esophagus (LES) doesn’t close properly. Common causes include obesity, hiatal hernia, smoking, certain foods, and some medicines.
