#Dumb, #Dumber, and #Dumberest - the third installment in the series reunites the original cast of the first two, with Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels joined by a cousin, who for some reason is played by a digital recreation of Rob Schneider. Plot is unknown, but likely doesn't matter.

Porky's: The Next Generation - a reboot to try to re-establish the franchise on the basis that #sophomoric #comedy has fallen into a rut. Plot has been modernized; since Hollywood no longer plays high school characters as virgins, three friends try to get their buddy to go viral on #TikTok. Stars Austin Butler, Tom Holland, Levi Miller, and Conor Sherry, and is for some reason directed by a digital recreation of Bob Clark.

Promising Young Woman 2 - as the original Promising Young Woman (2020) was unexpectedly profitable, you knew a sequel was coming. Some #retconning was required to re-establish the character of Cassandra, who memorably died in the original film. Carey Mulligan returns for a large paycheque, with an otherwise all-new cast. Script by a digital recreation of Emerald Fennell's cat.

And who said creativity in Hollywood was dead?

I'm kind of curious what Murder Drones would have looked like if the pilot hadn't been retconned to hell and back after the first episode.

Like, obviously it'd be a bad thing if we were deprived of Cyn. But in the show we got, you have to wonder exactly why Cyn, like ... went to all the trouble of specifically making the Disassembly Drones think they worked for JC Jensen, or made them want clicky pens, or gave J enough agency to kill off N, who was her favorite of the bunch. (The fact that N and V had enough agency to fight back against Cyn is more a late-season conundrum, but I digress.)

I mean it's abundantly clear that there was a major change in Creative Direction™ after the pilot. I'm just wondering what the original "robot girl rebelling against corporate overlords with her one (1) vampire boyfriend, who was part of one of several group of Murder Drones" plot would have looked like.

I did it. I watched the first episode of the final half-season of Fear the Walking Dead. It was just as atrocious as I expected it to be.

Spoilers ahead, sort of… but you’re not watching this dumpster fire of a shit show so you don’t have to worry about spoilers, right?

The worst part about the bad guy reveal is that it erases what was probably the most dramatic, intense, shocking moment of season three, which is not only the best season of Fear the Walking Dead, but might actually be the best season of the entire Walking Dead franchise. It was a holy shit moment for the ages and now it’s just a dumb after thought of stupidity. Gee thanks, Fear. Way to diarrhea all over your best moments.

Forgot to also post all the #Transformers plastic I managed to pick up at #Retcon. Amazed by the great selection at such a relatively small convention!
The #Xtransbots Racer #Dragstrip and #Fanstoys Hoodlum/#Hotrod were almost holy grails for me and I’m super excited to check out the classic MP-03 Masterpiece #Starscream!

Going to the Nordic #Transformers convention #Retcon tomorrow! My first time!!!

For next year’s user meeting, we take a special opportunity: It will be held from 7th to 9th of Februar 2024, partly in parallel to the  7th Regenerative Energy Technology Conference (RET.Con) in Nordhausen. The oemof user meeting will be in its established style, but we want to make it possible for attendees to the conference (which is held mostly in German) to visit presentations and tutorials given at the user meeting. Additionally, it is possible to add an entry for the proceedings of the conference.

This is also why we are announcing the user meeting already before the dev days have taken place: For the RET.Con, there is a deadline for abstract submission at the 30th of September 2023. Note that papers should be in German but presentations may also be in English. If you do not want to publish a paper, you can hand in a headline and a very brief summary for a talk until the 15th of November, so that an announcement can be made at the RET.Con. At last, of course you can ignore this early deadline and present something at the user meeting without having it announced at the conference.

If you want to want to submit something for the RET.Con via the oemof user meeting, please send an email to usermeeting@oemof.org. All emails to this address will also be forwarded to the organisers in Nordhausen.
