🎲🀺 Ah, nothing like an RPG design diary that delivers a riveting zero points of "actionable intelligence" and instead treats us to an odyssey of historical blog bingeing. Because when you're crafting a medieval fantasy wargame, the real quest is in reading how fast armies moved 700 years ago, right? πŸ“œπŸ—ΊοΈ

A look at actions and terrains in Edict RPG.

Action Sheet
On your turn, you can use a Major and Minor Action, or 2 Minor Actions.
Major Actions
Grapple
Roll Muscle. Damage a target beside you by half your roll, then divide your roll by 10 and push them that many meters.
Intimidate
Roll Muscle and divide it by 10. Targets within that many meters cannot move, sprint, or target anyone but you for 1 round.
Sprint
Roll Agility and move to a position within many meters. Each time you are in a space that is beside an enemy, reduce your remaining movement by 10m.
Hide
If you meet all stealth requirements, roll Scout and gain a stealth token in your space. When you use a major action and have this token, replace all damage dealt with this roll, then reroll Scout. Whenever an enemy hears you, move the token to your position.
Trigger a Trap
Roll Scout and damage everyone in a trap by your roll, then remove it.
Traps can also be set to single target and then trigger automatically when entered.
Distract
Choose a nearby target who was not damaged this turn, then roll Charm and divide it by 10. For that many rounds, or until they take damage, they take no actions.
Encourage
Roll Charm. Each close ally whose current health is lower than your roll has their current health become your roll.
Minor Actions
Move
Move to a close position. Enemies who were beside you, may move to be beside you.
Terrain
On your turn, if you start in or enter one of the following terrains for the first time that turn, its effects immediately apply to you and lasts for the rest of the turn.
Dodging
When terrain is created under you, make an Agility roll. You may move up to a number of meters equal to your roll divided by 10 before the terrain is created.

Types of Terrain
Grassland, stone, or dirt has no effect.
Acid
You are damaged. At the end of the turn if you are in acid you are damaged again.
Destroy cover in this space.
This terrain is not removed at the end of combat, it stays behind, polluting the land.
Blight
You are damaged and feel sick. The damage dealer is healed by the roll.
If you are a person, the damage dealer steals a year of your life to prolong their own.
Plagued vermin spill from this space.
Bloom
If you are not undead you feel blissful and you may either heal yourself by a damage roll or damage you deal to undead is doubled.
Plants here grow, flourish, and inspire.
Crowd, Fog, or Long Grass
Damage you deal is halved.
No one can see or target further than beside themself through this space.
You feel isolated.
Fire
You are damaged.
This space sheds nearby light.
Every round after it is created, each flammable space beside it and each close space with a summon will become fire.
The flames wildly destroy, but in its light you are filled with courage and passion.

Every time someone sees the character sheet, the XP comes up.

Everything costs a multiple of 5 (10 XP, 15 XP, &c.) so we count multiples of 5 for unspent XP.

We only care about spent XP in multiples of 10, and that means that FOR ONCE Roman numerals make the perfect counting system.

All fine till they ask 'why just four dots for "I" on the sheet?', and I say 'you get a V after IIII', and they go 'okay, makes sense'.

But if it needs explained, it's gotta go (while I hold my nose).

XP tracked in lots of 10's, 5's, and 1's.Same, but five 1's.

So my rebuttal/defense series is like, a whole series now I guess. By request, a defense of optional rules against common criticisms. Come see why optional rules can be a glorious thing that enriches the #TTRPG experience.
