Oh, that's a thing. This place does not have, nor probably ever will have, much of a dance floor. It's a bit 2D and 2-3ft wide. That's regrettable.

I actually feel really grateful to be living in a trailer. I ended up here from desperation, but I wanted this.
There are really only a few things I miss that can't practically be added.
I do miss having my own shower. (I use the one in the adjacent house once a week, and it's kind of janky and I have to coordinate its use.) I haven't had my own shower in many years, and daily showers were once my indispensable touchstone routine. While I don't think I'll ever want to go back to daily, I would like one of my own, with room to move, and very hot water.
There are a few storage options that would be nice, and I miss having a full library. The condensation issues are annoying but I'm getting them solved. I think there have been a couple of other smaller things I miss.
But I don't miss running water or sewer. I've worked out a system that works pretty well, and since I hate having wet hands, it actually makes cooking easier / less unpleasant.
I thought I'd hate the small fridge (with two people using it who have differently dietary needs.) But it's good to be mindful of what's in there and be pressured into using everything before it expires, (there's no trash service either, and I have to be careful to not attract grizzly bears).
A lot of things are extra fiddly, but once I work out a system, they're all doable.
I like being in the smaller space. I like that it's my own home I can modify as I please, but without a mortgage or super huge risk/responsibility. I like being so very close to nature. I like using less. (I've simultaneously cut back on things like single use plastics and tissues.) I like the way it pushes me just a little, like how I *have* to go outside at least once per day, snow or shine, to empty the pee bottle.
I've got things set up really nicely, with further plans. I'm really clever at practical design, so things are warm, cozy, and mostly convenient.

I've figured out while fighting condensation that the windows themselves are dehumidifiers!
I don't like to be wasteful, but three paper towels will sop up all the water on the windows most accessible, and then the windows are ready to pull more moisture from the air so it won't end up under my mattress!
The paper can go on the compost, so not that wasteful when compared to the electricity and propane I was using cycling the RV dry setting (which made it cold in here) with the heat, just to evaporate the windows into the air and round we went!
Question. Is there some kind of device that works as a sort of USB rate limiter? that just throttles the amperage going to a USB device?
Problem: I bought a tiny USB-powered ceiling fan, but it runs waaaaay too fast. That's to solve the bigger problem of heating efficiency, which is that in my RV, the ceiling at 6ft will be 80F while the human area is 60F and the floor is 40F.
It does solve that but at what cost? The cost of noise, cool breezes, and a jittery threatening aura, that's what. We're not talking entire BTUs of air needing moved here. There are walk-in closets bigger than my house. I expected a gentle waft setting just to keep things slightly circulating.
It has 3 setting: Pretty Fast, Freaking Fast, and Freaking Fuck Faster.
I would settle for "Half Fast Nine." The thing advertises itself at 5W and I would like it to run like it really is 5W tyvm.
I'm not about to open'er up and solder in a bunch of resistors. The only thing I was truly good at in electronics school was catching breadboards on fire. (This is a true story. Yes, I was trying to burn things. They let me graduate.)
Is there some kind of USB dongle I can attach in the middle that will just say, "Nope, slower'er down a wee but, yae canae* have that much power"?
* Sorry, I've been watching Limmy stream Disco Elysium and his accent is stook in me 'ed. Pretend I'm from Star Trek.

¿Hasta dónde tiene sentido el lujo en una autocaravana? 🚌 La Prevost LOKI 2026 es un buen ejemplo para hacerse la pregunta. Es enorme, muy tecnológica y con vocación de hotel de lujo.

Well, that's the new awning sorted.
Purchased an Awnlux 21' with new arms and hardware, since the old lot was wrecked by a sudden wind and dumped a couple of years ago.
About 4 hours work by myself, then the son-in-law gave me a hand with the last bit. Lifting the thing was a bit beyond my solo capabilities.
An interesting experience, and another thing I now know how to do myself. With the kit being cheaper than the Dometic equivalent and not paying for labour, I estimate we saved about $3,000 (based on the replacement of our previous to the previous awning).

After several exhausting hours off-road 🏞️💪 we were so close to our destination — an RV rest area right right next after the top of a mountain pass ⛰️🚐
But then… suddenly blue lights ahead! 🚓💡
A truck had lost its trailer, completely blocking the road 😳🚛💥

Where are all the nomad / camping / rv people?
There were 88 of us at #NoKings La Paz County #Arizona this morning: no hecklers, no noticeable provacateurs, and a nice, diverse crowd.
I didn't take pictures, but there will be plenty on Facebook and (I hope) in the Desert Messenger or on Rain's Substack.
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like #quartzsite
I'm actually full of excitement for the future for once.
My trailer is pointed a different direction now, a few feet from where it was. Now the lighting is all different and the cars drive past on the other side. Talk about disorienting!
Trailer move successful!

It's probably no help that it got very, very cold this week, earlier than it should have. And I'm living in a tin can that isn't winterized yet. In fact, the winterizing we had done (the skirting) was undone for the move. Now it all has to be redone in the cold.
I'm extremely grateful that I got my electric blanket set up just in time at least.
Really struggling today. This move is freaking me out far more than I would have guessed. Afterward, things are supposed to be much easier. But I partly don't believe that. And there are things that could go very wrong. Positive self-talk is doing me no good.
Objectively, this isn't even the worst I've been this year. But I think the stakes and other factors are really triggering. Plus, this is my safety place, my only home, my only place to sleep and keep my things, and it's being upended. So I can't fall back on that as my ledge to rest on.
If you go camping, and for some stupid reason decide you absolutely must have a campfire, **put the bloody thing out** when you leave, ***WITH LOTS OF WATER.***
***Don't just leave the fire and walk away!***
That was the reason we had to call out the fire services last weekend. We wound up with seven tankers chasing the resulting fire through a pine forest.
***Don't dump the hot coals at the base of a bloody tree!***
That was the reason we had to call out the fire services *this* weekend. I wet down the perimeter of the resulting fire with buckets and it took two tankers to make sure it was out; it had climbed the tree and was smouldering way too bloody high for me to reach.
**This is basic kids' stuff,** yet both of these fires were caused by supposedly grown adults being deliberately ignorant.
It's no bloody wonder we don't like camping within cooee of other people.
