Big Red Barn at Cross Village

Near the northern tip of Michigan's Lower Peninsula in Emmet County is a small town by the name of Cross Village. Cross Village completes then northern end of the Tunnel of Trees on M119.
I found this old barn about a mile outside of Cross Village. The classic lines and deep red really drew me to it.

Big Red Barn at Cross Village This is a big red barn near the edge of a road in the small enclave known as Cross Village in Northern Michigan. The foreground consist of a wood fence and a steel gate that leads to the driveway into the farm. The right side of the image is framed with a tall birch tree. The barns walls are roughly 20 feet tall on the near side. On the far side of the barn the roof changes pitch at roughly 45 degrees. The roof of the barn is tall and curved to meet at the center of the building. The walls and the roof both are painted red and is weathered. In the background is a large pasture bordered by trees.

After living in Monroe NH for almost 25 years, I found this barn in the adjoining town of Haverhill on a road I had never driven. It's a typical late 19th-century dairy barn with a high drive to allow hay wagons access to the hay loft. It was overcast with light rain, but the foliage was still brilliant. Red Barn Near Moose Jaw Junction

I spent ten years in Northern Michigan in my teen years and I spent time in many of my friends barns. These were great hangouts for kids.
In this case I really liked the color of the overall scene with the green grass in the foreground and the blue sky in the background seems to be a perfect setting for a nice red barn.

Red Barn Near Moose Jaw Junction This is an image of an older barn near Moose Jaw Junction in Northern Michigan. The foreground consist of a freshly harvested wheat field. There is a small birch tree on the left front of the barn with a blue spruce on the edge of the frame. The right side of the image is a large maple. The barns roof is slowly decaying and missing some shingles. The painted red boards are all fading and in many cases completely bare of paint, There is another smaller out building next to the barn. Behind the barn is a cornfield and further beyond is a forest marking the boundary of the farm.

Rural Barn

I came across this old red barn on one of my drives out to the California coast. Besides big cities and beaches, there are also farms, many of them.
Many of the barns seen today in California are steel structures. The old wooden barn is out there but not as common as you might find in the mid-west. Rural Barn This image was captured on a rural 2 lane highway in Northern Marin County. The foreground of the image is a white picket fence that sits out in front of the red barn. The barn has the lower loft doors open exposing some hay inside the barn. The exterior of the barn is painted red but it must have been some time ago as it is well weathered and pealing all over. Next to the barn are a couple of silos that have also seen better days What paint is on them is mostly gone. One of the silos appears to have some structural issues and appears that it will fall in on the barn. Behind the main barn is a smaller outbuilding. Beyond that is a large open pasture bordered by cypress trees.
