The World Press Freedom Index 2025 is at its lowest level, with just 1% of the human population living in places with healthy critical media.
Although the attention goes to journalists killed (hundreds), RSF points out that the biggest impact comes from governments defunding and corporations cutting advertisement from critical media and investing in propaganda channels (incl. social media) instead.
