I really need to disassemble and clean the Thinkpad W530 I use for work because I can now only build our distro from scratch if I slow the CPU to its minimum clock. Otherwise I cross 100C and my fan lifts the machine slightly off of the dock.
Yes I am lying about that last bit.
But yikes! All that power! And I've let the fan clog up. I am a bad person. 😞

A few months back got the #GolfGTI I'd dreamed of having as a teenager (I would never have been able to afford it then and didn't have a driving licence anyway)
Its a 2018 model rather than 1988 (I've including a picture of the oldtimer for comparison) - managed to get the #RetroModern look with the alloy wheels, but it has all the modern facilities such as digital stereo so of course I had to play the latest track from #Powderpaint as soon as it was released!
Almost tempted to put a fake Feu Orange air freshener in it somewhere ( some of yous #GenX will know what that is 😁 )
Ok, for those who don't know I am a super noob at CAD and 3D modeling. I have only just picked up trying it in the last couple months and have tried 4 different softwares to do it and am not good with any of them. Needless to say, this is the most complex project I've ever done like this. All that said, I am really happy with how far I've come so far. The design has definitely had to evolve from where it was in my head with the realistic limitations of my skills and the real world measurements of the parts I'm working with, but I'm still liking where it is ending up so far. Again there's still a long way to go but this is the first time I've had a semi-tangible look at what I'm trying to accomplish.

"Whenever I finish this thing I'll need to take cool photos. Hmm, I need to make a retro modern mouse to go with it. I mean I have a MX master 3S sitting around I could use for nice internals. I'll also need to do a bit of cosmetic work for my speakers, and my speaker stands, and my desk, and maybe add a little something to my monitor…" :neofox_think_googly:

I made a circuit board thing to help all the cabling to the LEDs and switches I will be using for warm white under lighting. Also to power it all off SATA. It's ugly but the multimeter says it works and a 3D printed enclosure should help with the looks lol.

I've finally sketched what was in my head for the case design to paper. I should have some of the parts I need today at some point. Hoping I can figure out the internal structure and layout relatively quickly so I can work on the fun parts. Shout out to Noctua for having step files for their fan grill that they used on their power supply up on printables. I'm using it as the base of the brackets I made to house the case fans.

Next up is the first prototype of my logo case badge while I wait on parts that effect scale. Going for the original Apple, old IBM, commodore logo vibe. Instead of painting it I'll probably just get all the colors of filament as everything is slotted into the black back of badge anyway. Also maybe a 0.25mm nozzle should be an investment i make. MicroSD card for scale.

My Apple Music station is pretty good at introducing me to new bands it “thinks” I will like. Today’s discovery is CVC. They sort of remind me a bit of The Thrills (remember them?) but less “beach-y” and a bit more “yacht-y.” Good stuff on a Thursday morning.
