Блин, достал древний макбук, поставил на него федору, доставил драйвера для wifi, закрыл крышку, пересел на свой тыкпад, и вижу, насколько экран там приятней, несмотря на меньшее разрешение.

wtf why did they change the hinges between T420 and T430 displays????????
the differences are so minor that this makes no sense to chamge them between models considering that the T430 is more of a T420 REV 2 with all the other interchangable parts
so why did they pick new hinge models that make T420 and T430 hinges incompatible without further mods on either the lid or the hinge?????
@michal those TN panels are absolute trash, bottom of the barrel, just overall awful experience. I have one on my T430 (HD+, 1600x900), and if if would have been my only laptop, I would certainly replace it with some IPS panel. Tho, it has to be said, not all ThinkPad's IPS are created equal, and basic fullHD ones still leave a lot to be desired (those 45% NTSC have still pretty bad color gamut). The only one panel, which looks as it should (like basically any normal standalone PC monitor in the last decade) is QHD panel on my T470p (72% NTSC).
Tak som dnes vymenil noťas, T470 za T480... Jak som ho doniesol domov, tak som musel oba noťase rozobrať, aby som mohol prehodiť vnútornú baterku, RAMky a disk. A to celé len skrz to, aby som mal ďalšie 4 biele obdĺžničky...
Hey fedi, what do y'all think about the L-series #Thinkpad s? They are not listed in that famous used thinkpad buying guide, and I've found mixed opinions as to their quality vs price values.
I've found some good (but not spectacular) deals on used ones, so just wondering whether to consider them next.

i revived and updated my 2007 thinkpad R61i, which hadn't been used in years. it's running arch linux and xfce. it developed hardware issues while shelved: intermittently unresponsive keys, nonworking battery, and unreliable optical drive. i had been thinking of setting up an environment for light web work on this low-end, low-res laptop. but it's so heavy, slow, and hot that might just be time to recycle it.
Does anyone have a #Logitech Lift mouse and Logitech MX Keys Mini that they use with #Linux? Apparently, the Logi Bolt dongle can be used with both the mouse and keyboard (via #solaar), meaning I wouldn't need to take my #ThinkPad out of the dock to enter the LUKS passphrase. Another rant: the other day I made a poll about looking at laptops and I mentioned I was looking into the Starlabs Horizon.
Not sure why I got it all mixed up but I'm pretty perplexed in their choice of using an Intel i3-N305. Maybe for better battery life? The more I looked into it, I guess I really don't know who this laptop is built for.
I'm still on the market but I think I'll end up getting a refurbished ThinkPad.
Currently in the process of combining two #thinkpad x270 as one has a broken display and the other a broken sim card slot.
After that it should have almost all the mods you could want except for more than 8GB RAM.

In gewisser Weise „back to the roots“, da mein erster Kontakt zu Linux mit #SUSE 9 eine #redhat basierte Distro war.

Ma dość zabierania swojego laptopa na zajęcia, tym bardziej, że ostatnio coś się posypało i zasilany z akumulatora losowo się restartuje, więc zaczął myśleć o dodatkowym laptopie, czymś prostszym i tańszym.
Naczytałem się tutaj o legendarnych ThinkPadach, najwyraźniej obowiązkowym wyposażeniu każdego programisty, admina, etc. i zaproponowałem mu zakup takiego. Zainteresował się, więc pomyślałem, że ułatwię mu zadanie i zasięgnę języka u znających temat.
Gdzie najlepiej kupić używanego ThinkPada? W jakimś sklepie czy szukać pojedynczych aukcji? Które modele (serie?) są warte szczególnej uwagi? Czego unikać?

Playing around with reviving an old Lenovo Helix Thinkpad. Trying out #Lubuntu for the first time.
Not really sure why... The batteries are toast, though I don't see any signs of swelling.
