Future project... IBM 5160 I recently got. Has a CGA, floppy, hard disk and lpt boards. Faulty power supply I need to resolve first.
This was my first PC growing up, so a lot of nostalgia fixing one up.

Can someone id this thing? It's from the Soviet Union. None of the writing seems to indicate a year. I don't know how to read Cyrillic though.
:boost:
⦠also anyone have a spare 760 series HDD caddy? Mine came without it. Or at least pinout of that IBM proprietary connector so I can make my own adapter⦠#retrocomp #thinkpad
I found this poor IBM Thinkpad 760C without harddrive (and caddy for it) and with really bad vinegar syndrome polarizer bulge. I saw a few vids on how to remove polarizer from LCD and thought its an easy job. Boy I was wrong. Took me 2 hours to dismantle the LCD assembly, then 5 minutes to peel off polarizer, 2 hours of AC on vent mode to get rid of vinegar-acetone smell and then 4 hours of wiping off glue. Nevermore (I know I will do it again but this is what I think now) #retrocomp #thinkpad
Dica do @gwidion !

okay janky beta1 of CurdleST deployed on my web site, go check it out
https://www.haxxed.com/curdlest/
play on the web, in an emulator or on real hardware

trying to release CurdleST beta1 and pcejs just isn't cooperating
how do you crash an Atari ST this hard
its cursed i tell you

experimenting with uploading video to youtube to lighten the load on the fediverse
fixed the sound on the SM124 SO NOW I CAN WATCH MONOCHROME DEMOS!
here's one that isn't currently emulated properly, it does some overscan tricks, and displays greyscale by drawing during the horizontal blanking interval???
have fun emulating that
doesn't look like a finished production, still pretty glitchy on real hardware πβ
as i suspected the reason the sound wasn't working was because the speaker wire fell off πβ
managed to improve the brightness and focus slightly, and center it better but it sure drifts all over the place as it warms up
decided i didn't want to mess with the neck which is how you straighten out the rotation
and decided to leave the size alone, the corners are blurry enough as it is
i want to adjust this SM124 but wanted to document its calibration first
common complaint was the wide borders around the display
that's just how they came
drew some squares in Degas Elite and measured it
the pinhole phone camera distorts this spectacularly but it is actually pretty dead on 8in by 5in for the displayed area, which given 640x400 resolution means it is calibrated to 80dpi exactly
yes it is supposed to be square pixels, so if you do the math on that, the Atari ST may be the first system with 16:10 widescreen πβ
if you've expanded your display out to 4:3 you've done it wrong
eyeballing an ACSI2STM
might be able to snag one on the next paycheck
if you want to support System 7 on the Atari ST and other retrocomputing shenanigans, Ko-fi is in my bio πβπΈβ

CRACKED SPECTRE 3.0 FOUND!
thanks OPCS
this can run System 6! with MultiFinder!
but just barely
its a bit heavy for a single floppy system with only "832k" RAM
System 7 absolutely requires a hard drive πβ

figured out how to make Aladin disks, it's a 9216 byte FAT wrapper followed by a 711k MFS filesystem
doesn't seem to accept HFS even though System 3.x was the first Mac OS with full HFS support ugh
found a copy of Red Ryder 10.3, which lets me select 19200bps and actually lets me use the extra screen space π
White Knight won't run for some reason, even though it runs on System 3.2 in minivmac
#retrocomp #retrocomputing #Atari #AtariSTβ #Apple #Macintosh #ClassicMacβ
ok silly me there IS a copy of Aladin 3.0 buried in the archive!
still based on System 3.2, with a bit more customizing
has the same software on the BOOT disk
shufflepuck doesn't crash on this version
however the keymap selector disappeared so it's stuck with a German keymap?

and a copy of Red Ryder, a popular terminal program in the early Macintosh years
logging on, Jackintosh edition
this might provide a (very slow) way to get files in and out of this thing, but i still can't get file transfers to work over the wifi modem π
#retrocomp #retrocomputing #Atari #AtariSTβ #Apple #Macintosh #ClassicMacβ
what's on the second disk?
well this confirms it, Aladin seems to depend on patching some things to work, but they do supply nicely documented (in German) patches and a tool to apply them
go go Google lens
piecing together an English system looks to be possible
early Mac OS versioning is fragmented, Finder 5.3 went with System 3.2 and only much later retroactively labeled "System Software 1.1" by Apple, which would have been the current version in 1987
so we're a year before System 6
again if anyone has any other Aladin disks about, perhaps an English version or especially a copy of Aladin 2.1 please get them uploaded to archive.org for preservation
there's also a copy of Turbo Pascal 1.0, neat
#retrocomp #retrocomputing #Atari #AtariSTβ #Apple #Macintosh #ClassicMacβ
i was able to mount the disk image it boots from in minivmac and copy over some small games
Alice runs!
but shufflepuck is very crashy

time for more retro computers running the wrong retro operating systems!
this is Aladin, a very Deutsches Produkt for running Mac OS on an Atari ST
normally it required a cart with Mac ROMs in it, this is the cracked v1.3 that's all i can find on the internet, if anyone has a newer version please send it my way
first run the setup program and make sure the second floppy drive is set "nicht angeschlossen" on a single drive system or it will not work
remember it is J for Ja to save the settings
all floppies must be write enabled or it will also Nicht Funktionieren for some reason
start it up and with any luck you will be Macintosh willkommen geheiΓen
