It doesn't mean you merely attended the rodeos because that's easy. You just buy a ticket and go.

But 'This isn't my first rodeo' specifically implies you are one of those who's been on those jumping horses and you've lassoed a cow or something and you wear those leather trouser-protectors and one of those hat.

You took part in the rodeo.

That's what it means, surely!

It can't mean you just went and watched. How is that impressive?
